The Border Raider with 60163 - 16/09/17

I think Standedge will remain a very rare treat nowadays. Despite running on to the Transpennine route at Mirfield only just behind one service we delayed the next one by quite a bit. The extra service per hour added a couple of years ago has basically finished the route for anything bar normal passenger services this side of HS3.

This was a special trip - there is no doubt of that. Outside of the various Southern commemorative trips I think this might well have been the tour of the year due to its scale and ambition, climbing three of England's most fearsome gradients in one day in a trip of over 450 miles. Thank you to everyone involved in putting it together and executing it!

I second that, but one never knows, especially if the forthcoming loco-hauled trains means that increased capacity will make that extra service seem a bit more of an extravagence. However, I agree that if it was in the plan from the start, it probably wouldn't have happened!

 

If it we don't post these episodes how on earth will it ?

 

To be honest I would rather stand in a field or wherever for a noisy loco any day as I only bother with Grotsman and Tornado because I live local as not a chance I would bother otherwise to be truthful.

This is all rather silly. If noise alone is the yardstick then the GWR would win every time. Heaven knows what some people would make of a Chapelon Pacific if it came their way. They make Tornado seem positively loud.

 

If that's true then sure plenty on here will know which loco decibel wise is the loudest?

 

Class 57 with no silencer at idle, is supposed to be rather loud, supposed to be like a Hymek at full chat.

 

I don't post too often here these days but, for what it's worth, I think we should be celebrating diversity rather than getting all parochial about this. There's nowt wrong with any of 'em (although, for all that, I know which ones that I would prefer to fire up Shap).
