What is the latest on the Gala ? Is it just the two visiting Loco's ?

What is the status of the Quad-arts ? The Gala web page suggests they will be there, but the M&GN page suggests that they are out of service.

Will we see the newly restored suburban set at the Gala ?

This event is always one of the highlights of my year.

It is just two visiting locomotives S&DJR 7F 53809 and WD 2-8-0 90733. The home fleet will likely be BR Standard 9F 92203 Black Prince, WD 2-10-0 90775, BR Standard 4MT 76084, LNER B12 8572 and GER Y14 564. I don't know about LNER N2 1744 if she will run or not and I like it if possible.

The Quad-arts will not running at this gala and require repairs first. The Quad-arts are more likely to be in service next year and the suburban set will run instead of. Like at the spring gala and there will be three BR MK1 sets, suburban set and plus the goods train.

Well early this year I remember reading a post from the Friends Of the North Norfolk Railway Facebook page. From Mark Middleton said that in a post replying to a post about the Quads. From what I have seen on that group Mark Middleton knows lot about the be hired the scenes at the NNR. His exact post was ''Repairs to the roof and roof felt are the main jobs, for which the set has to 'dry out' before work can commence. Whilst it's in, it needs a full brake block change, and I guess exam of the running gear.'

The Quads need some work to re-seal gutters and repaint the roofs - they don't have roof felt - they are sealed canvas with multi-layers of paint. Last autumn they suffered in heavy rain from minor leaks to some gutters and roof vents. The were booked into the C&W shops for work after being given time in store to dry out. The first available slot is Oct-Dec this year. It has to be remembered that you can't just put one coach into the works, a lot of clearing has to be done to accommodate the whole set disrupting other projects in progress. So whilst the work is (hopefully) relatively minor it has taken a while to arrange. Also as all roofs are to be worked on they will have to be scaffolded to provide safe access. Whilst they are in works the opportunity will be taken to re-block them (not an easy job on a Gresley bogies) and they will be re-varnished.

Thx guys for answering my questions, particularly around the Quad Arts. Hopefully the NNR will update the gala webpage soon as to the intended rolling stock. My tickets were ordered today. I hope someone has booked the normal good weather as I will be camping at Kelling for all three days of the Gala.

Me other half has told me that Black Prince will probably not be out as a major fault has been found. Not sure what the fault is as i don't know where she read about it. Will ask her tonight when she gets in from work.

No major fault - Black Prince is due back in service in August. There have been issues with the new castings for the piston heads, with them having to be re-cast three times as flaws have been found. This has delayed its return to traffic by several weeks.

It is interesting under the sets there is two goods sets and one has brake at each end. The other one does only have one brake and it seems the goods are being run differently this gala. It be interesting what the plan is with the goods train is.

90733 not visiting since police escort through West Yorkshire not available, see front page of website.
Do not know about the Y14, which is one of the reasons for attending, since travelled behind all except 90775 before.

The Timetable for Sunday states 57xx TBC under locos in use that day, so I was expecting 7714.

I'll be sad to miss it (but sunning myself, so the disappointment will be tempered). It's always a great day, to a large extent regardless of which locos are running. the on-train breakfast is delicious and a bargain...and they do real coffee!

Disappointed I can't make it. Always disappoints me when I read negative comments on social media when a visiting loco is cancelled through no fault of the railway. I'd happily attend a gala at the NNR featuring just the home fleet.

Good replacement but Im filming it at the NYMR Autumn Steam Gala instead. Shame 90733 could not make it to gala. Maybe I might go to NNR Spring Steam Gala in 2018 instead.
