Ivatt Diesel Re-creation Society

Might as well revive this thread again.

The website is down; there's a comment on Facebook about there having been no instructions given to pay the hosting fee, therefore the chap responsible hasn't paid up.

Is this project now 'dead in the water'? A shame if it is, but sadly diesels just don't grab the attention of folk in the same way that steam does.

 

I did think about posting that myself, having noted also that the domain had expired a few days ago. It does look that way, sadly.

 

sadly, there are so many sites that are defunct, it appears that the owners cannot be bothered....

 

What happens to all the donations I wonder? Was talking to a chap 3/4 months ago who said he'd chipped in with £1000 !

 

It might be one of those occasions where the threat of civil proceedings to recover the donation (on what grounds I do not know, IANAL) might prompt a response from the management as to their position with this project.

I'd certainly be mighty pi**ed off if it was my £1000.

 

I'd like to see some money back too! The Trustees, of a charity, will have to do this in the correct manner. Am sure they would need to offer it on to interested people first, as a going charity I would imagine. It could be some of you will want to take it on afresh, a putsch, this would be the best outcome. But its bad news.

 

Last thing in the media was this strange little launch event, which wasn't even reported on their own website. Since then, nothing.

Update - On Facebook, members of the Ivatt Diesel Reconstruction Society such as myself, along with other interested folk are putting our names forward as being willing to offer our skills and encouragement in order to reinvigorate the aims of the Society.

Personally I'd love to see 10003 running (yes I prefer that that was the number) and am willing to do what I can. I think the emphasis must be on a willingness to serve, toward the end result.

But why 10003? Why not 10002?

 

I've added voting options for 10002/10000, not sure 10003 perhaps he thought there were 3 not 2 prototypes as so many keep saying 10002? Good to see some help!

 

An AGM is scheduled Saturday 19th August, 11am-4pm, including viewing bogies, at the Deeley Room, Swanwick Junction.
4pm is the last train from Butterley where you must park. A room has been reserved for us on the new station.

Anyone needing a lift, please let us know and we will see what can be arranged.
We are hoping to inspect the loco on 13th at Rowsley, and network, this will be announced in due course.

I realise I'm way out of my depth in this thread, but I'll ask anyway: what relevance does the class 58 donor have to this project? I'm struggling to see any similarity between the two types?

First of all, we could say that the 58 is the Grandchild of the LMS D16/1 (10000).
Second, both are modular.
Third, both have cabs the same size, apparently.
And I believe that the 58 gen set can be mated to the D16/1's 16 cylinder engine ...
I'm not technically minded, but it sounds like they are similarish, to me

 

The underframe of the 58 is supposed to be rather similar to the Twins, it's the basis of the new build so to speak.

Apparently similar but not exactly the same, meaning any recreated loco would not be to the original design

Maybe so but it'll be easier on the paperwork side of things far easier to get certification under grandfathers rights than new.

 

True, it's never gonna be exactly the same. But it's gonna be as near as dammit. Better than nowt....
