I'm just guessing that we don't know much about what the future holds 45231 since all has gone quiet since the locos move to Crewe. Does anyone know if more maintenance is being carried out? Or if any strategic planning is taking place? There are many possibilities.

Nothing new here http://www.iconsofsteam.com/locos/sherwood-forester/ and they are usually quite good at keeping the website updated.

Last I read it needed some firebox work and a decision on whether to do an overhaul including fitment of air braking or see out its ticket, as is, on a heritage line.

I think the boiler problems are a bit more serious than suggested by this post.

In that case the back of a lengthy queue of larger locos beckons. Shame as it was notionally in certified working order when it changed hands.

It hasn't really recovered from its faux pas at the Llangollen gala a few years back, according to an ex support crew friend

Hope for the best. Talented locomotive for sure. On mainline they have stood in for several larger and more "famous" engines that were down for various reasons. Riley is known for his pair that always impress when double headed. From what I have read his maintenance is top shelf:) which is key to keeping them steaming.
An afterthought, would two 5's be equal to a power rating of 10 and was any single British loco ever rated as a 10?

Two Fives were used in the event of a Class 8P Pacific being unavailable, and were considered the equivalent. Highest power ratings in Britain were 8 (passenger) and 9 (goods).

There was a boiler in steam outside the TMD a few weeks ago, and what I assume is 45231 was outside in primer earlier this week.

It wasn't right when it arrived. Only managed two and a half trips.

As asked above, what went wrong with 5231 at Llangollen?

How does an engine which was preserved straight from BR and had several stints of operation in preservation end up needing new coupling rods? Has someone pinched them?

Where is this c**p coming from @silverfox2512 ?

Much sounds of hilarity emanating from Crewe from your post by all accounts

Considering the picture only three posts earlier shows rods in situ?
