The power of the media, both printed and social, resulted in unprecedented crowds at Chepstow last night.......

Actually, I think that's an excellent shot, very artistic. Not only is the composition very nice, but the huge crowd of people and iPhones everywhere captures the fact that a 90+ year old steam loco continues to be incredibly popular and relevant to the everyday person in the modern age, whether they're an enthusiast or not. Two time periods brought closely together. And I think that's great.

    Kind regards,
    Chris

Interesting post and IMO if you don't want people in your pics, avoid station platforms like the plague.

I did intend to go out and capture it, until I saw the Shropshire media had cottoned on and as expected all hell broke loose !

Similar at Yate - there must have been 500 people there, sadly due to the halfwits down the line it was dark when it passed at low speed. Barely managed a pic at ISO 25600!

its due at Castle Cary next week, probably the closest its going to come to me here in Sherborne but I really cant be bothered to go and join the scrum whenever it appears.. The picture of Chepstow sums it up.. I wouldnt dream of going to a station as that kind of things happens all the time but more so with 60103.. And this thing of running two trains a day with both trains the train will be late and probably passing Castle cCary at dusk so station is only option but not for me..

It's like the 'Vulcan effect'. Only different.

Not really, didn't have people spilling out all over the sky for the Vulcan.

Maybe not the sky but all along the route roads were jammed at popular vantage points, look at videos of the Lake District, even in Cheshire, where it was obvious that due to the loops to visit Manchester airport and Woodford, you would get three sightings within 10 minutes, from one spot, the country roads were jammed.

On Tuesday, is Flying Scotsman going to Minehead via main line to Taunton, or is it going via Bath and Westbury?

It's on Realtime Trains - it's going straight down the main line

It refers to the final flights round the country of the last airworthy Vulcan bomber, which took place in 2016.

Means when people are looking at an Aeroplane, then are generally on the ground out of it's way, Unlike railways where they are all over the cess.

Nevertheless it is a valid comparison and offers a foretaste of what is likely to happen when not just enthusiasts but also members of the public turn out to see a very well-publicised piece of heritage British engineering in action.

I won't humour your rude and disingenuous (yet hilariously clever) response with an explanation as to why people weren't up in the sky getting in the way of the aircraft; for avoidance of doubt I was referring to the very large gatherings of people at public spaces, roadsides, blocking rights of way and generally causing the police lots of bother by getting in places they normally shouldn't. It came to a point when police had to tell Vulcan To The Sky that their published flights would be cancelled for safety reasons if the public did not stay away from certain locations.

It followed that VTTS did not publicise a number of displays and transits due to the sheer number of people that would otherwise have turned up, which seems is rather similar to the situation announced in the case of 60103 this weekend.
