Mrs W has very recently joined the ranks of the retired ( but she looks so young I hear you say) so yesterday I took her out on a "pensioner's picnic". By pure chance, we ended up on the southern end of the platform at Carnforth station in good time to see 46233 back her support coach from the back of the station to the loop. A couple of minutes later she eased forward towards the main line with smoke that was all the colours of the dark rainbow spewing from her chimney then being swept away to the west by the brisk easterly wind. The loco was perfectly lit in the strong Spring sunshine and the billowing and trailing smoke allowed the illusion that she had 15 on. Alas I had no camera and there was but one photographer and was he filling his boots. Steve Chipperfield soon had her heading north and very quickly she disappeared from view. We had bacon and egg buns in the refreshment room (just like Celia and Trevor . . . )

Railway Herald has reported damaged piston rings which would explain the 'sound' being far from perfect.

48151 is apparently out on test today, not sure if it's a light run to Hellifield and back or the loaded run around the full circuit.
