Anyone know how the bookings are going? I expect the two main journeys each day are sold out, but what about the morning/evening journeys?

[QUOTEthe h="Groks212, po2801, member: 4770"]This collaborative alliance comprises Northern, Network Rail, DB Cargo, the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and Friends of the S&C. So what have RTC to do with this?

I see that you also disbelief that the diesel will not assist despite it being stated to the contrary.

Another excuse for you to replay your record again then.

The settle carlisle railway development company (the CRP for the line) are supplying catering trolleys on the trains selling tea/coffee, snacks and alcohol. Sorry for previous errors.

Thanks Dave. For the benefit of anyone else interested:

Tickets for the historic visit of Tornado to the Settle and Carlisle line are now all but sold out.

The 10.45am Skipton to Appleby services and the 2.57pm Appleby to Skipton services are completely sold out across the three days and Northern anticipates these services will be significantly oversubscribed given the large number of non-reserved tickets which have already been bought.

There are still a small number of reservable seats available for the 8.25am Appleby to Skipton and 5.15pm Skipton to Appleby services on some days of operation and overall ticket sales suggest these services will be the least busy. However, all services remain popular are there are no guarantees any customer will be able to board Tornado without a reservation.

Anyone who wants to guarantee a seat on one of the services is strongly advised to reserve a place as soon as possible.

Paul Barnfield, Regional Director at Northern said: “It is great to see so many people supporting this historic venture.

“We always knew that the first timetabled steam services in the UK for 50 years would be extremely popular, but the demand for tickets has been phenomenal.

“Those who have pre-booked reservations will be guaranteed their place on the relevant service, but for those who have unreserved standard tickets access to the services will be on a first come, first served basis. We strongly advise those who want to travel to arrive early as there will be a formal queuing process in place.”

I hope that Northern are going to strengthen their non-steam services that day, as it looks like there will be an overspill from the steam trains. We've reserved on the 17:15 from Skipton on the Thursday, but first we have to get from Appleby to Skipton by one of the diesel services.

I notice that non-reserved tickets are still on sale for the oversubscribed steam services, as well as the normal trains. Wouldn't it be a good idea to stop selling tickets sometime soon?

As this is supposedly a replacement of the through morning Leeds - Appleby is there any indication as to how the five minute connection at Skipton will be managed and indeed will the connection be maintained in the event of the train from Leeds being late?

Heritage Railway issue 225 arrived yesterday. It reports as follows (page 56) "according to reliable sources, Tornado will work tender first from Skipton to Appleby in the morning and afternoon......................"

Obviously, this is contrary to what we are expecting and I suspect it's wrong, but who knows?

I also suspect HR is wrong as the trains are timed at 60 mph northbound and 45 mph southbound.

Herein lies the problem. This is not a Steam Charter but a "normal" Service Train. You canot restrict ticket sales. Anyone can buy an Anytime Single or Returm at any time. It's what the locals do all of the time. I really don't know how they are going to manage the locals who want to board their normal train at either Settle or Kirkby Stephen. As standing is barred (how ironic for regular Northern sufferers) there is a risk of people being stranded at Kirkby Stephen, which is in the middle of nowhere and their plans ruined.

This is not a criticism of the event, but a simple concern for those who rely on this service regularly being severely inconvenienced. Maybe at least one coach should be left empty at the start of each leg to accommodate the regulars. A coach has been added so hopefully common sense will prevail. Or will Northern be getting taxis for those turned away?

It would be interesting to know how many locals normally board those trains at Settle and Kirby Stephen at that time on those days of the week.

Agreed. I don't know about Settle but Kirkby Stephen is unmanned I believe. So knowing numbers is probably in the hands of conductors?

Will passengers on the train from Leeds be given priority boarding with through tickets?
