Sadly I wont be going but might I suggest that it would be good for the enthusiast fraternity to be seen to be on their best behaviour and in particular to allow those who are genuine travellers priority?

Effectively, 12 steam hauled trains will be working over the the 50+ miles of the best bit of "Gods Wonderful Railway" or the Settle & Carlisle if you will, for 3 whole days during winter 2017; I don't know about you, dear reader, but I have dreamed of this since, well, 1967!!

I have booked the time off work, sorted the accommodation and for those 3 days I will watch every one of those trains, from a distance, from a bridge and even watch the night time departure from Kirkby Stephen for Appleby and I hope, for at least one moment, I will to be transported back to, well, you know when; heck, I might even take some photographs.

Reading all of the crap upthread, it looks as though I will be having the Fells all to myself, great!! that will be very 1967, however, I can't emphasise enough how this event will be cherished by at least one railway enthusiast.

If I meet you out there on that wild, freezing and windswept Fell, I will have met a kindred spirit and I will know that you understand too.

    Cheers,

    Alan
