Looking at the schedule I'd say there's no chance of a loco change at York (or Holgate). Either it will be steam all the way or steam plus diesel all the way. No messing about.

 

Is there any news on loco and stock moves for next weeks SSE ?

 

To partly answer my own post, UKsteam info now shows Galatea (or tba), with steam all the way and diesel at the back...

 

Galatea plus 11 plus POB plus 47802 on the back. Very busy train leaving Castleford this morning at least in standard class.

 

Very interesting. Makes choosing (or not) an autumn tour easier when trying to avoid diesel assistance. Will the Tour Operators and TOCs respect and apply? Only possible justification for assistance would be a late substitution of a higher class with a lower class loco.

 

Lovely day, Yorkshire folk going for a day at the seaside by train, what's not to like.
I'm going to have something to say though if yon 47 is pushing up the hill to Outwood.

 

Good one Victor! I think a Jube with the equivalent of 15 on is going to get a bit of a nudge. As long as it can stop it down by Gelderd Road to head down the Alps for the right turn past Holbeck.

What's not to like? 45562/5/93/647/75/97/739 would have been better still. But we were dead lucky those locos like 45690 and 99 were down at Bristol Barrow Road. If they'd been at Holbeck or Low Moor they'd have been cut up in five seconds.

 

Prefer 45573 / 97 from the Holbeck contingent especially since I recall driving them round Kettering shed in their latter days !

 

The Jubilee looked and sounded great skirting the River Derwent near Kirkham Abbey.

Galtea failed FTR this morning

 

I heard that too.

 

Oh well... Being cynical, I was wondering if something would happen this year. Almost did the York loop yesterday, but thought "do it tomorrow or Thursday"...

Probably already advertised as being at NRM during 1/2 term? Bit unfair to advertise something and then take it out on a railtour, if that's the case!

 

True but conversely mitigated by many customers getting steam on the SSE as advertised? A great story to tell the children hoping to see it that it had been sent out to rescue a poorly friend!
