Yes, I know that it's a diesel railtour but the class 40 'whistler' is one of the few classes of diesel that I appreciate. <BJ>

There was also a pre-tour with D345 on Friday to collect the stock from Carnforth but this seems to have disappeared.
More info on the Saturday tour below:

A little earlier from Bury now.
    Nothing on RTT as yet.

D345 roars along the WCML at Woodacre with 1Z47...the 12.35 Carnforth - Buxton on 30th September 2016. The sun had been out for 20 mins before she arrived, but sods law, being around 10 mins late, it started to pour down at the crucial moment!
Great to see one of these fabulous machines out on the main line again :)

On a positive note, it's not the best weather for a day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon. Heavy rain forecast throughout the day. <BJ>

It is a diesel for goodness sake. Why celebrate a Class 40 on a mainline tour. I just don't get it. I remember the class 40's up north taking over Duchess and Princess duties. Hated them for that. Generation thing, I guess. But once a steam man, always a steam man. For that I am very proud.

If the Buxton Spa had something other than a Spoon and a Washing Machine, then it would have been a bit more interesting on the motive power front. So a 40 would have fitted the bill nicely.

Fair comment, but I give you 'once a true railway enthusiast, always a true railway enthusiast. For that I am very proud'. (Except Pacers):)
We all enjoy steam, but 20's, 31's (yes) 37's, all the 40's, 47's,the Hoovers, the Westerns, the 55's, and yes, the 66. Bring em on.
And then we had the Valentas with the handle in the top notch.
Once went on a day railtour with a pair of 31's on the front, it was a stonking day out, with a VERY enthusiastic team up front.

There's more to railway preservation than steam locomotives. D345 being the only one of it's kind to run on the main line makes it pretty special. I made the trek to Peak Forest to see it on Friday. Very much worth the 180 mile round trip to see such a fine machine at work on the big railway! :)

It's a shame that the class 40 didn't take over from the Duchess on the Royal Duchy yesterday.

A West Coast 57 does nothing for me. <BJ>.
