LMS 730866. It happened when the goods train was moved up to the Stourport Triangle for a couple of weeks to make way for the Rudds at Bewdley for the Diesel Gala.

Wow! 10,000 views! Amazing! Thank you everybody!
This week's report will be brief as I have not been in the Down Yard for a couple of weeks so the info is just what I could gather from Facebook and from several trips past in a guard's van!
The lads have been busy filling up the holes in 13154's floor, not an easy task as the frames on this waggon have had a bit of a battering so this could be a frustrating process trying to get the floor to sit flat. This wagon hasn't been in traffic long in comparison to the previous project, but was done last time with the last of some second hand timber, re-claimed off wagons broken up many years ago for spares, consequently, as we had used the best wood first, this was very elderly and not in the best of health before it went on the wagon, hence only lasting a few years, however, the replaced planks this time are of new timber so should give us good service.
The LMS brake van has received a new piece on one of her step boards, after the old one had been found to have rotted.
Hopefully I will be able to bring you a more extensive report soon.

Today's report is a bit brief as I haven't had been able to be at Bewdley as much as I would like, however I am informed that the weather kept the lads from working outside, so 55777 got a bit of attention with repairs to the body sides now beginning, and some attention to the north end of the wagon.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the yard, Richard Gunning's lads are making progress on 17410, so far, only removing the rotten bits has involved removing the whole verandah, age is clearly catching up with this wagon.
As you may know, it's the peep behind the scenes event in next weekend, so hopefully some of you will be getting off the trains at Bewdley and wandering down to the down yard to have a look at what we are doing. We are at the opposite end of the carpark to the station, through the double gates.

    Ian,

Something that I should have asked ages ago - are any of the SVR wagons kept undercover, even if only on an irregular basis?
Are there any plans for a wagon storage shed(s) or is space on the SVR for sheds too tight?

    Thanks

    Keith

One (?) in the Engine House at Highley

There was an earlier, abortive, proposal to use the stub of the Stourport line.

In the latest SVR News is mention clearing the former sugar beet sidings area at Foley Park of vegetation, to prepare the area for surveying for a possible goods shed.

The only ones that are kept under cover are the ones that occasionally go into the engine house, and the ones that are being worked on in the goods shed.
Yes there are plans for a wagon shed, but as I am not involved with it, I can't comment on what those plans are or whether they will ever come to anything, there are a lot of ifs and buts to sort out.

Well I must say it was a pleasure to see a few people at this weeks "Peep behind the scenes" event, and a few of you could see us in action.
Outside in the yard, 13154 received some top coat round the bits of her frames that the boys had previously cleaned up, and a discussion on how best to approach one or two bits of this wagon that will be hidden largely from view (That's attention to detail for you!)
Inside the shed work on 55777 continues to march on, with the steel framework of the cabin receiving undercoat this week on the river side, while some clever recycling has allowed the discarded upper stringer on the verandah end to have the rotten bits removed, and the rest to be modified to form the bottom stringer in the cabin end instead. Her doos have also received some TLC and when I last saw them, were having some work to hide the joins where patches had been inserted.
Over in the machine shop, work is crawling a long on 17410's brakes with the eight 1" x 4.5" brake pins now made, eight 1" x 4" ones to do next!
Talking of the machine shop, it is worth mentioning the work the 1501 lads do over here to keep the elderly machines in tip top order, this un-glamourous job is very much a case of preserving the very elderly equipment that is used to help preserve the even more elderly equipment of our railway, if anyone fancies lending a hand here, I'm sure the 1501 boys would be only to pleased to hear from you
    Have fun
    Ian

We've got nearly 12000 views now, so I really ought to make more of an effort to keep this thread updated.
13154 had its floor completed today. We've used up our stock of good used planks, so the middle bit got brand new ones. By coincidence, our most recently outshopped wagon, 102691, is directly alongside.

A few more pictures of progress on 55577. At the moment, we're concentrating on cutting out and replacing rotten sections.

Just to prove I haven't lost interest, I'm back!
Saturday saw the lads doing a pads Exam on 13154, this being an examination to check that the felt pad which "Wick's" oil up onto the journal, to see that the pad is not glazed up and that it is generally intact, as when the boxes fill with water, this can cause the supporting spring underneath the pad to rot and break, which in turn would cause the pad to collapse and therefor cut off lubrication. This is joined by checking the journals for damage, removal of water / sludge / dirt and replacement with oil to the correct level. Obviously as we don't want the boxes to then re-fill with water, this is normally carried out towards the end of an overhaul, unless we have reason to suspect damage (Such as the wagon having run a hot box for example), so it goes without saying that 13154 will very soon be back in the goods rake, in fact by the time most of you read this, she could be back in traffic, with Conflat 39860 due to come around to the south end of the shed to take her place.
Meanwhile inside the shed, work has continued on 55777, with her slightly tired doors and uprights having some pieces let into them and the joints hidden carefully. Some of the rotten timber has had the rotten bits chopped out and found a new life as a different bit of the van (Re-cycling at it's best!) We are currently awaiting a delivery of paint which needs to be applied to the ends of the van, before we can start re-assembling the north end sanding gear, and thinking about the other end.
Hope to see you all soon
    Olly

Nice to see that the conflat is to get attention, it will add a nice bit of variety to the already excellent goods rake.
Is the contents of the North side of the goods shed siding a fair indication of the next few projects? I.e are we likely to see the pair of tankers receive some attention in the not too distant future?

The conflat should have the buffers replaced with correct GWR ones.

I think the SVR wagon group at Bewdley could do with some extra hands!
    Anyone want to help?:)
