I'd shut the shop for the day to do this.

My sentiments entirely, but RTC are not a charity as I am sure you and the majority here are well aware, but this trip highlights the rarity of a 'faultless' tour, are we prepared to pay a premium to travel ? on what would be, one for the enthusiast. I for one most certainly would...

Wow from the pictures and video I have seen this looked like an amazing tour. Just when you thought main line steam was past its best...

The Blaeanu branch behind steam has been on my list of things to do for a while - hope the Railway Touring Company give this itinerary another go next year. The Scot I'm sure would be a popular choice!

No kitchen so all the coaches were earning, and the only real spaces were when those passengers on the Multi day tour left the train at Blaenau.

Support everything you said. Praise is due in equal measure.

Only regret was I could not shift a meeting to take up one of the last few tickets.

I usually travel on the Welsh Mountaineer. Just my luck to miss a special one.

Indeed, and from all the favourable comments on this thread it seems that this could have been one of the railtours of the year. And yet the day before, the general consensus on here (and from a friend who was a steward on the outward run) was that there would be a diesel in the mix somewhere!

How do we identify a good railtour in advance, given current levels of uncertainty re diesel assistance?

On board footage of the climb to Blaenau can be viewed here.

The sound is a bit dodgy in places as I kept losing the external mic.

Thanks for posting. Well worth a listen. Scot working hard mile after mile; squealing 'rails'; wind - the Ffestiniog Branch at it's best!
