I could have dressed it up, and cut out the panic move, but I left it in for a laugh.

As seen tonight, at the foot crossing just north of Mortimer station. I'm no expert but it sounded like it was working a bit going up the bank, and the 47 on the back certainly didn't seem to be doing much to help, which is a good thing, right? flying_scotsman_mortimer_sm.jpg

On second thoughts, it almost seems as if FS is slowing for platform clearance reasons, but as that didn't apply last week, I guess that can be discounted. Looks like Spike Edney on the regulator, of ex EWS fame. Not like him to hold back!!! Perhaps someone on the footplate could explain what was happening, or not happening around Twyford, even Spike himself just as Wayne of DBC does?

Were we not told up thread that Twyford has a 30 restriction on the UM and most platforms on the Relief have something similar for FS? Makes the pathing of FS in and out of Paddington rather tricky.

Mystery solved then? Although I didn't see it return to Paddington last Saturday, I spoke to people who did and they said it flew through Twyford on its return to London. That's what's confusing. Unless of course, there has been some engineering works in the meantime to reduce the clearances here. I filmed the down run last Saturday and FS flew through at almost 80mph on the fast. Quite a contrast!!

Here is my video from yesterday morning. Not one of my best as it was a hasty set-up after having to abandon my chosen location due to the road being closed off. I also had to edit out some very strong language from my Father as he was getting stung by nettles in the hedge! :

Outward the diesel appeared only to be ticking over/carrying its own weight and I only remember hearing it after we restarted outside Salisbury after arriving early ( I was in the last coach). Some good running after Newbury, and again after the speed restriction at Pewsey.

Return - After we had boarded we heard the over the station PA that people that we were being told to evacuate the station. We were told over the train PA to stay on the train and that we were being delayed due to a building fire just outside the station. When we left half hour late we could here the diesel assistance to get us up to speed. We stopped between Salisbury and Grateley but I do not know why and again diesel assisted again until up to speed. We were assisted as required after the speed restriction and also after slowing go through Whitchurch. We followed a later running Freightliner between Basingstoke and Reading. There was some good running between the speed restrictions on the up main from Reading with no assistance.
BT Police were on board and at least one was armed.

I've seen Daves, believe me, mine is worth a clutch of Oscars in comparison. Not exactly the fastest mover on earth is he.

I have been through all the videos on this thread with my daughter and if its any consolation her conclusion was 'this one is my favourite one' - so you have a fan there!.....

She is 3 (and loves her steam trains - I have done well with the indoctrination, her grampy is very pleased!)
