The 42 will be arriving at Lyd with a shredder tomorrow, but the 33 will be doing test runs up to Norton NOT going on the service before anybody starts to worry

Just to clarify, 33057 is booked to run from Williton to BL on Saturday morning with D832, dep 09:45.
The 33 is then due to have the brake blocks changed over the pit at BL and then run on the Norton stretch to bed them in.
It will then either return to Williton light when a path is available or be used as a taxi home for the D832 crew at the end of the day.

Thanks to the WSR for the 'Mini Mixed Traction' event today. ;)

D832 looked and sounded very good thanks to the lads at DEPG. Also a special thanks to the driver for the enthusiastic acceleration and use of the horn. He obviously enjoyed his day out with the class 42.

The quality of steam locos in service today was superb. They included 4936, 7828 and both S&D 7Fs 53808 and 53809.

If the majority of preserved railways around the country could organise a line up of locomotives that the WSR had in service today they would have advertised it as a gala.

The West Somerset Railway should be very proud of what it has achieved over the years. <BJ>

Well I really hope your right, the fact that the "theme" has changed at least someones taking notice of the large amount of comments on here and the two other forums I check in at, but at the end of the day "themes" may attract steam fans but it really doesn't mean anything to diesel enthusiast's its the locos that will be working that brings them in and still at this comparatively late stage its still unsure what is coming and please lets not forget its not just this gala on this weekend, if people have to book accommodation, travel etc it may be too late already

Thinking outside the box here .....no, that's not a pun, would you be still be unhappy if the WSR announced that they were to hold for an example, an English-Electric themed diesel gala. Locomotives would be invited to attend from all over the country. Another suggestion could be a class 37 themed gala with locos arriving by means of local freight workings (Colas, DRS etc.) With the variety of liveries and sub classes it would be very interesting and attract a large attendance. A themed gala sounds good to me. <BJ>

Well a gala stocked full of 37's would no doubt be popular, what it wouldn't do is attract the full range of people to full the coffers of the railway because not everyone would be attracted to that. And again please note I really want this event to be successfull and it would be if the world was full of people that just want hydralics but as with the 37's not everyone likes them, variety is what will attract all sorts so a bit of pen a bit of hydralic, small Sulzer a shunter that people need then you will get the crowds in, take the upcoming SVR gala and the wide range of classes in evidence therefore something for everyone

    No.

'Shouting loudly' and writing unpleasantly (your particular speciality) I can assure you, has had no effect.

What has told are the folk who have made their points politely and effectively, and have had them passed on to the WSR decision-makers by those of us who wish to see the WSR in its rightful place in the heritage railway 'premier league'.

If you feel that you have succeeded by shouting then you are wrong. I have to question what has actually changed about the gala to make you feel that anyone has listened to you.
The gala still has a mix of steam and diesel traction.
The gala still has a theme but now celebrates 40 years of the DEPG.
The gala still has the home fleet of hydraulics running on the day plus a class 33 and 47.
As yet a class 66 diesel is the only visiting locomotive advertised to appear at the gala.

The various teams at the WSR will listen to sensible and well presented suggestions about future galas but the idea that bully tactics will win over the team is thankfully false. <BJ>

Yet again the complaints that we who dont see things the same way are accused of shouting, please dont confuse having a different opinion as yourself as "shouting" or whatever else, the easiest and simplest thing to change to bring paying passengers to the line is change the quoted 66, the people that will turn up for a shed simply wont be there and that will be a loss of sales for the event

Pleeeeeease read what is written and by whom. It was @34098 who claimed his 'shouting' (his word, not mine) had achieved results.....

He was not 'accused' of shouting. He boasted that is what he had done.

Has a Deltic ever run on the line, that would be great.

It was. I have notes of D9019 'R0yal Highland Fusilier' in September, 1998 and 55.022 'Royal Scots Grey' in June, 2012. <BJ>

And here are a few examples of Deltic images on the website:

Exactly I've not boasted about any thing, People are getting the wrong end of the stick, but like I've said beforeJust because I have a differing opinion doesn't make me a troll etc
I mean if I abused wsr staff as much as some , not anyone on here btw do me i'd be escorted off the railway, a tti on the line came up to me at spm gave me some abuse about what ive said and then ran off, was very sheepish when I bumped into them at swanage the other day too, but moving on

But in reality if you keep thinking everything ok you can just drift along , not bothering about the diesel galas, see how long the numbers stay up,
be interesting to see if there was a way of doing it, not idea how to implement it but see over this mtw thing how many people travel on the steam compared to the diesel, numbers wise,
