We haven't actually heard what the new livery is yet - might be neither apple green nor black. Carnforth have 'form' for this kind of thing!

That is a fair point but even more alarming all the same. If it turns out to be something inauthentic and BR based it'll be such a shame given her current authentic and handsome form.

    Pedant mode on.
The B12 carries pre war LNER livery with shaded letters/numbers whilst the A1 and B1 carry the BR version of post war LNER livery with plain cream letter and numbers so not quite a match.
    Pedant mode off.
    I get your point though.

Fair point - for same era the B12 should be in black really. But it's such a shame!

Can't see "Carnforth" having much say in the arrangements other than applying the chosen livery under a contract.
Seem to recall the owner being quoted as saying he prefers BR black as it is from the era Mr Buck recalls the B1s in service. Totally respect that but its a shame, given how handsome it is in the BR apple green. His money, his choice though, no criticism.

Midland Red! Now there's an idea...
Every loco looks best in crimson lake, as I have frequently asserted.

Out of interest, has 61306 carried anything other than apple green in preservation, company emblems/numbers notwithstanding?

Mayflower would stay apple green if I was the owner.

    Right, don't panic folks!
I have been looking back through my recent issues of The Railway Magazine and Heritage Railway to find the information that was eluding me. Found it at last. There were several reports about 61306's visit to Carnforth for maintenance but I couldn't find the one that mentioned the repaint as well. I have now found it in a Railway Magazine from the end of last year. The report says that Mayflower will be repainted.... she will get a fresh coat of Apple Green. So she is keeping her current guise. The owner does mention in the report though that he would like to see her in lined black at some point.
Also her boiler is not being overhauled at Carnforth but has been sent to another location.

Where is the boiler receiving attention if not at 10a?

Glad that the guise shall not be changing.

It's a shame we don't see her on tours in the north now, as every one seems to have a south east starting point following the pattern of the A1SLT, if this is to remain the case, is anyone aware of any intention by the 61264 Society to return her to the Main line ? and yes, i'm already aware she runs to and from Whitby, before anyone states the obvious...

I think it has always been the intention of the 61264 Society to run her further afield than the NYMR/Esk Valley line occasionally, but until she gets some wheels back in place there's not much chance of that.

... and what about 61306's inauthentic name? (ex-61379!)

Inauthentic for that locomotive, but totally authentic for a class member. You have to remember she's been Mayflower in preservation longer than she was in actual service for BR (having been built as a BR B1 I believe).

In the report in the Magazine the owner says he intends to base 61306 at Southall WCRC for 2016 only for main line duties. However, I don't know how this decision has been affected by the closure of Southall WCRC.
He doesn't seem so keen on Preserved line visits going by the report in the Magazine.
