Sorry, it was just a suggestion.
I rather enjoyed the previous Mixed Traffic event when 53808 was visiting.

I don't mind mix traction galas myself but for some reason some diesel cranks will flash over if you run a mix traction gala. Looking at the line up for this event its still gets my vote. Three locos plus a Hampshire unit and two gronks isn't a bad line up. Plus if you are a class 50 or class 33 basher you should be able to get more mileage behind these locos now.

I gave up watching Corrie years ago - now I tune into that soap opera called National Preservation every evening. Much more entertaining!

    First the S&C.
    Then Folkestone to Dover.
    And now The Alton Line.

    What are NR up to?
    ;)

Could, in theory, that bit of line be abandoned if the damage was severe and kept happening?
If so, it would severely impact the MHR (and the commuters).

BR tried hard to close the Farnham - Alton section. There is a story that at the opening of the Alton extension one of the senior BR managers invited to the event asked when the MHR might like to take over the section from Alton to Farnham. I guess that the issue is that the depot is at Farnham because the town council in Alton wouldnt allow one to be built there.

I dont think permanent closure (or transference to the MHR) is any longer a realistic prospect. Politically untenable I would think.

Can you imagine the furore from the ALUG if closure was mooted.

I suppose there must have been a third platform at Bentley for Bordon?

    when it rains it pours,
More MHR gala news (it gets worse)

Dear All, as much as it pains me to say so, I have just spoken to the team at Shackerstone, and they are having problems with 33053's cylinder heads to the extent that they are leaking coolant and need removing again. The guys have pulled all the stops out to try and remedy the problem, and I am sure "33019" will be able to give more details of the problem.

The bottom line is, and I am really sorry to say that 33053 will now NOT be ready in time to attend the MHR diesel weekend. We will therefore have to have another look at the timetable in order to run the Hampshire Unit 1125 as much as possible in the place of 33053.

50027 and 37901 are fuelled and ready for the weekend, in fact 37901 has been moving ECS about today, but the loss of the crompton is obviously a big disappointment to all.

As soon as the revised allocations are done, I will let you know.

I would like to place on record though my thanks to the guys at Shackerstone for their valiant efforts to rectify the issues. I am certain that they are probably a lot more frustrated than the rest of us.

hopefully people still support the line this weekend, they need all the support they can get, they havent given up through all the problems ,when other lines would have,

    [QUOTE="Captain Fantastic,

What I personally mind with us so called "enthusiast's" having the cheek to point out an events short comings is that just because we don't think all is fantastic and we are full of gratitude, then we are just twisted bitter people who don't recognise the effort's of the people who organise stuff well the people who organise Coronation Street make a lot of effort in that so going by the I must appreciate it attitude should I watch that?

Just because myself and others have a different opinion does not mean that our opinions don't count or even that every volunteer goes along with the received wisdom of the management[/QUOTE]

Exactly when somethings good they get praise if somethings not good they dont simple, to be told i'm trolling for having a different opinion doesnt bother me, I have my view and i will stick to it weather people like it or not.

I see the fares have been reduced to that of a standard day, I do hope people will still support the event as it is a great place to visit.
If not, I fear this will be the last one :Arghh:

To anyone wavering....remember the beer is a very reasonable £2/pint! Hard to find it cheaper anywhere.

Can't see that happening. The road haulage cost wouldn't outweigh the increase in visitors.
