There is an update on the MHR website, not good news I am afraid.
"The Mid-Hants Railway regrets that due to continued Network Rail embankment issues between Farnham and Alton which have resulted in the line being closed, locomotives 56006, 56081 and 37905 are unable to reach us for our Diesel Week-end.

We will still be running our advertised timetable but obviously with different loco allocations. This will be updated later this week.

We would welcome your support at this event to ensure it's survival for 2017."

    Best laid plans etc....:Banghead:

The MHR really haven't had much luck with Diesel events in recent years.
Perhaps they could have a Mixed traffic Event this weekend and get the Steam Loco's involved as well?

As far as my tastes go, the absence of a 37 and a pair of 56s makes the gala much more attractive. I didn't try to get the weekend off work, but have ended up free anyway. I will definitely be along on Saturday - a 50, 33 and Hammy? Perfect.

    Lion, 33 053, Hammie and presumably 37 901.
That should mean they all get a good run out and no double heading required to translate the brakes for the 56s.

A shame not to have the 56s, but it should be a great weekend (oh and we'll have the RAT bar out each day too).

I wonder if there'll be a thunderbird in steam.

I can look the other way when the 37 is around!!
In case any of our over literal friends is reading this, I ought to explain that of course I don't actually hate any classes, but I have my favourites, usually because of happy associations. I never met 37s or 56s in BR days, so not excited by them, whereas 33s and 50s ruled the Waterloo - Exeter line when I was a regular back in the 80s. Some of the happiest days of my life, a woman who loved me and a satisfying job.

Oh no. Did you have to mention a Mixed Traffic Event? The West Somerset Railway are getting a right ear bashing at present from a couple of diesel 'enthusiasts'. ;) <BJ>

I did snap 08377 at Northside Lane last month....and I remember the evening I was cooking on the Belle during a summer steam ban and we had Shunter power to Ropley and back(twice) with an extended stop at Northside Lane "to admire the sunset" Ironically after weeks of dry weather (hence the ban on "kettles" it poured with rain! The forecast atm for Sat and Sunday is ok, some sun, some rain.

No. Oil and steam mixes no better than oil and water. Unless it is an emergency mixed traffic just winds everyone up....at least that was the experience when we tried it.

To be honest in regards to the MHR Gala this weekend, if I was going (the lack of locos has nowt to do with it , I went to the Bluebell last weekend) if the gala went a bit Mixed traffic I really wouldn't mind as the reason for the lack of locos has nothing to do with them all the planning said this gala would be great, so if they have to cover a couple of turns with steam I would be fine with that, as I said the lack of locos is not down to planning

What I personally mind with us so called "enthusiast's" having the cheek to point out an events short comings is that just because we don't think all is fantastic and we are full of gratitude, then we are just twisted bitter people who don't recognise the effort's of the people who organise stuff well the people who organise Coronation Street make a lot of effort in that so going by the I must appreciate it attitude should I watch that?

Just because myself and others have a different opinion does not mean that our opinions don't count or even that every volunteer goes along with the received wisdom of the management
