    Big 4-8-4 steam loco action
611 is going to be out for the next couple of months here in the States

I heard from a news source that we had Railfans from all over the world on boards this past weekends run with the J.

That's a fine sight Mike, but do you get the same complaints about the diesels assisting as there are over here?

Impossible to tell if they're assisting over the noise of all those shutters. :)

I think that it has become the normal situation in the US and is thus accepted. Probably as there is no such thing as 'open access' there; all lines are owned and operated by commercial companies.

No I don't think so. Steam on the mainline is not something that occurs here as much. The Southern Loops is a very demanding route so I understand why they had the train setup the way they did.

Yes as in "yes they do main about diesel assistance?"

Changing tack but only slightly, some German tour operators make a point of advertising no diesel assistance so one assumes German gricers also appreciate a box free run.

There does not seem to any Cant applied to the curves or it seems that way.
Is this due to the main traffic being freight?

The good news is that 611 is pulling the 20 passenger cars without diesels today:).

611 was at Roanoke after midday (Eastern Daylight Time) and left just after 3pm (EDT), for the VMT. Great to see it moving and note the various cars it was pulling. I noted the following road names: Norfolk &Western, Norfolk Southern, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Pennsylvania, Milwaukee Road and Pulman.
