And it was an excellent piece of work, in something like this done in such a short timescale, perfection is difficult to achieve, but I'm sure the general public will not have noticed anything amiss.
Were other newspapers involved like this Anthony or was it just the Mail, some of us would be interested to know how you made your choice as to which to use?

Readership figures? I have no idea which national daily is the most widely read though and can't be bothered to google it. :)

We didn't make the choice, the Mail approached us. This came off the back of their feature on the 25th February run.

Do the Mail own the artwork? Would make a fantastic poster (I know my son would love a copy on his wall).

They did offer a poster of the centre spread from the coverage last week.

    This shot. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/03/05/00/318EA7C100000578-3477601-image-a-71_1457137549063.jpg

I hope the remuneration was satisfactory, as well as all the extra publicity that it gives you?:)

We had this on BBC Yorkshire just now. If that doesn't bring a lump to your throat, nothing will.

Since it was on Sky watched it over here as well, as you say lump in throat and tear in the eyes, and what an advert for Riley Engineering and Heritage painting. Noticed that Ron Smith also got a bit choked up when he spoke of his father and grandfather.

    Definitely thirty minutes well spent!

A well made and informative program with a few interesting interviews, including a brief one with an eighteen year old mainline qualified steam fireman.

At that rate, the future of steam is assured - assuming we still have companies out there to run them :)

You can understand why WCRC may be rather miffed at having FS taken away from them but like all things it's not the people on the film that were responsible for where WCRC finds itself at present.

The BBC are still pushing the program tonight, one of Riley's men interviewed on R2 Chris Evans Show this morning

And here's the image that matches the description, with Bittern/ DONZ seen reversing around the chord from Hatton West to Hatton Station Junction, approaching Hatton Station from the Stratford-upon-Avon branch as the first part of its turning maneouvre on the triangle there.

And yes, 12th May 2011 was a warm and dry day, for which a small line-side fire just north of Wootton Wawen Platform on the southbound leg of the William Shakespeare bore adequate testimony!!

Those figures are a little bit depressing, a clear divide in popularity between the tabloids and the broadsheets. They all have their issues and biases but I think the latter are better quality and more interesting to read, but I suppose they wouldn't have given FS such massive publicity as the Mail will have done. Swings and roundabouts.

    Kind regards,
    Chris

There's generally a bit more parity in the web editions, but whether as many people would view a Scotsman story 'accidentally' online versus doing so through flicking through the pages of a print newspaper I couldn't say.

That Guardian figure looks a little low though… have they taken the BBC's copies out of the listing…? ;)
