The diesel on the back conspiracy theorists won't like the boring mundane requirement for a shunt loco at Carlisle.

Since when have shunt locos been needed at Carlisle? You go in facing north, loco(s) come off and go to Upperby for servicing, back on to the train and be ready for the southbound journey. They probably didn't want the cost of an extra LE movement for the diesel to attach it to the rear.

Thanks! Wouldn't like to say how much it was really doing, doesn't sound to be doing more than taking it's weight, but that's a debate I'm staying well out of :Stop:

The diesel hauls the whole train and locomotives southbound out of the station to be serviced, and hauls the whole train back into the station for departure.

    It's an operational move.

Everybody on board quite happy by the way....

There would be cost for stabling at Manchester if it came off after the ecs.

That really does raise the video stakes somewhat. Pleased to see that for most of the time the drone was a reasonable distance to each side of the train.

Yes indeed, an impressive piece of video. However, I certainly see this as the thin end of the wedge, drones will proliferate; how soon before they really get in each others way with the attendant and inevitable anger of lineside photographers/observers?

    Cheers,

    Alan

The fact that more trains than normal were terminating at Carlusle due to the WCML being closed to the north may have had a bearing.
