Maybe no decision has been made as yet. At the moment there is a rumour going round, but as you well know these things are often started by half overheard conversations and the full picture isn't known.

True, but why not say exactly that while posting and kill the rumour? quick to crucify the Rly Herald when they hinted at uncertainty.

Could be that the final decision has not been made yet, only that there is a plan 'C', as it would appear that the second '5' as in plan 'B' is not available, and because of that WCR have agreed to make sure Galatea is available if required.
So often in the past people have complained that there is never a spare loco available, now there are and all sorts of assumptions are being made.

Again, agree, but why not say exactly that? It's called communication. Folk are often rightly criticised for pedalling misinformation and rumour so set the right example? Isn't that what posters are told to do in order to encourage the 'elite' to share with the mortals?

Bit of a no win situation though. If Ian posts on here that the rumours are a load of rubbish and then whatever they are working on turns out to be more complex so FS isn't ready he'll look like he was lying. If he waits to until he is certain before confirming anything, people accuse him of lack of communication. In any event he's probably either up to his armpits in loco grease, or enjoying a pint somewhere away from the internet.

There was time enough to respond to a piffling misconstrued post about WC?

What an odd thing to say......but not to clarify whether they'll be in charge of 60103 this week?
He was only responding to another poster, who has subsequently said sorry.

As a passenger on the CME this Saturday, I am anticipating that some of those same WCRC crews will be driving 60103; however, we will just have to wait and see the outcome of any main line test run.

just looked on real time, the path seems to still be there, so any news from ELR? uk steam has the report that the test run could be postponed for 24 hours but i guess the important thing is that if 60103 is not ready yet, then with no other booked mainline work until the Scotsman specials later in the year, at least Ian can ensure its 100 per cent ready if another date has to be arranged , im just hoping the delay isn’t related to the will they, wont they question over West Coast.

Folk have been so optimistic over the last couple of weeks because of the positive statements being made and public interest has been so high. It's understandable, I think, and reasonable to expect statements if plans change or the chances have slipped to 50/50. Information has been flowing freely, which is good, but keep it coming even if the news is less positive, so managing expectations. Folk will respect you all the more for doing so.

To quote Ian Riley from earlier today elsewhere:

Testing work continues with the braking systems on the locomotive, including 'ironing-out' problems with the Tender braking.
As such, the paperwork will not be in-place for the locomotive to carry out Mainline Testing this week.
Once WE are happy, the testing will be re-scheduled.
It is hoped that 60103 will take the place of 46233 on The Cumbrian Mountain Express railtour of 6th Feb.
This Saturdays Railtour will be hauled by 44871 and 45407.

UPDATE WINTER CUMBRIAN MOUNTAIN 23RD JANUARY
    19-Jan-2016
We have been advised this morning that despite reassurances and the supreme effort made by Ian Riley and his team The Flying Scotsman will not be ready to haul our train. This is due to additional work being required on the brakes. This was identified during test runs on the East Lancashire Railway. This has resulted in insufficient time to complete the necessary paperwork required for the engine to return to the main line.
As originally advertised and due to the unavailability of The Flying Scotsman we will now be double headed throughout by two Black 5’s 44871 and 45407.

Please accept our apologies for any disappointment the change of locomotive may cause you and be assured that the whole team at The Railway Touring Company share your disappointment.
