That's a bit unfair John, WCR usually use the correct path to Hellifield but after that if they do not need the booked stops then they are allowed to run early. time can be gained at Hellifield, Horrocksfold, Blackburn and Preston. Why sit around waiting for the booked time if control are happy to let you run early? The only people who complain are those who do not keep a close watch on RTT and end up missing it.

As a TOC they can use any of the paths available and quite frequently they have used an alternative to the published path, test run for 46115 for example.

Maybe the ELR didn't have a choice?

Fear not it was the same last time a Riley's loco was booked for a test run 44871 went right to the wire too, including a cancelled run over Shap. Ended up Carnforth to Euxton and return? Only a day or so before it was due out on the WCME, coincidentally. So they've got proven success with Just In Time approach.

Perhaps it was a bit to close to the wire, I've now heard that it's staying at the ELR (brake problem) Saturday's trip will be down to Riley rescue service. Not 100% confirmed but maybe the man himself will know more.

Thanks for the kind comment andalfi1.

It just goes to show how lucky you can be. Composed it wasn't, far from it!
I just screwed the camera on the monopod, attached the cable release and held the monopod
with the camera about 18 inches above my head and hoped for the best.....it seems to have worked ok!

I think it's 45407 and Galatea, of course if there's no WCRC by Saturday it won't run.

Presumably something will need to be done about the whistle as well unless it's going to drag a diesel around everywhere to use the horn at every crossing?! :)

What a very insulting post?, as a member of WCR traincrew, I can say from my own experience that WCR Steam crews are THE most experienced operator of Steam traction of any TOC in the business, and will treat the locomotive with the same respect as any other?..they would be the last TOC to break it!

Ian are the reports that 60103 may not be ready for the tour ( air brake problems) as reported, or has someone got the wrong end of the spanner? i can understand Having the Jubilee and 5 on standby, i just wonder if the original report was based on last weeks news that the air pump had failed, and the news from carnforth was based on that, and not updated following 60103's runs this week end ?

WCRC took alot of diligence in breaking Galatea through to get it to the point where it is today. What makes people think that the same care would not be taken in case of Scotsman with the schedule that has been proposed for this year?

Sorry to cause offence my clumsy language was meant to convey the fact that if there are any problems encountered on the test run there isn't much time to sort it out. I agree with all you say about WC engineman having met a few of them on the Scottish charters over the years.

Odd though to take the trouble to defend the repute of WC but not to clarify whether they'll be in charge of 60103 this week?
