An inexpensive second hand product from the Birmingham Small Arms factory would be ineffective, as its more than 50 feet away.

You could always ask the Poles if they have found that armoured train yet, a flack car would do the trick

I think a Brimstone missile would do the job very nicely?

Wonder how long before one has an incident with overhead wires...

I would imagie the flying of any Drone over any lines with OHL wires would be prohibited as it has the potensial to bring them down stopping everything on that section dead in its tracks

I don't think there are a ny regulations governing them as yet. Military hardware is not necessary a radio jammer would do the job. They are a menace.

Things may get worse still, look what's coming down the turnpike.............

    drone-ces-EHang-18_3543084b.jpg

A manned drone for gawdsakes, this will bring a whole new meaning to "Train Chasing".

    Cheers,

There are a whole bunch of regulations. What there isn't is any way of enforcing them.

    https://www.caa.co.uk/drones/

    The Dronecode

Make sure you can see your drone at all times and don't fly higher than 400 feet
Always keep your drone away from aircraft, helicopters, airports and airfields
Use your common sense and fly safely; you could be prosecuted if you don't.
Drones fitted with cameras must not be flown:

within 50 metres of people, vehicles, buildings or structures
over congested areas or large gatherings such as concerts and sports events

I thought there was another rule, drones taking pictures or videos must be operated by two people, a 'pilot' doing the flying and a camera operator umm... operating the camera

A manned drone is quite an interesting semantic concept ...

Anyway, at the risk of implying that there was just the teensiest amount of thread drift going on, isn't there already a thread for discussing the impact of drones on railway photography?

Just had a thought, if the RAF can bomb Syria using a drone flown by an operator on a computer back at Northwood, will I be able do all my railway photography from the comfort of home?

In theory yes! Pretty expensive I imagine though. I went to visit where they operate the drones from at RAF Waddington a couple of years ago, absolutely fascinating stuff.

One wonders how long they'll carry on advancing this drone technology until they realise they've just re-invented the helicopter...
