One of the rebuilt Patriots 45540 Sir Robert Turnbull was painted apple green with red, cream and grey lining in 1948 .A colour photograph from HN James/Colour Rail appeared in a Steam World supplement " BR style ,the corporate identity 1948/1968 .

They probably won't, I know some GWR fans and they think flying Scotsman is a tag line for a Scottish airline, while they are too busy looking at manors, or is that a hall... Looks the same to me...Oh, I've got confused again

Sounds like a tag line Stelios could use in future................... :Saywhat:

As for Halls & Manors, aren't they the Country piles of the landed gentry?...................... only difference being the size of the lump......... :)

Interesting contrast in approaches taken with the two locos regarding period of commissioning, running in etc prior to certification.

I know its first time out but I hope the 31 isn't going to be pulling it around on Saturday. I certainly don't want to get up at 4 am and travel all the way to Bury to get what has now become normal with main line tours

The 1948 exchange trials would suggest otherwise. Not only that but I hear Steam Railway made 61306 Mayflower their loco of the year for 2015. I would humbly suggest that the Thompson B1 is a more than capable and worthy comparison to the Stanier Black Five.

A great sight. I wonder how many man hours have gone into it to get it to where it is today?
We as enthusiasts are indebted to ALL the people involved, I really do think it will be as big (news wise) or bigger even than Tornado.

It might be prudent to contact ELR before you travel to get the latest information if you are concerned about being disappointed.

People are not interested in all the hours of hard physical and heavy work that went in to it .its the paint that's important. ;)

Rarely can an initially mismanaged fiasco of a public project have had such a joyous outcome! The Daily Mail must be very conflicted!

    hello
i cant imagine it would be acceptable for it to be towed around on saturday
but bare in mind that currently it is facing heywood although it could make a trip to castleton to be turned
so at present it will be 9.50 off rawtenstall right way around so you can have another hour in bed
    regards
