Undoubtedly yes - family have a holiday home near there. Although it would not be my first ride behind it, and I really wish the line went further along the peninsula.

I'm sure we all wish that. Unfortunately going further west is very unlikely to ever happen as development of homes along the main road and widening that road have rendered it impossible, bearing in mind the line ran tramway-style along the roadside on much of this section. It would also involve a level crossing across this major road.

Thanks for this...can I add that an hour up the road is the West Clare Railway with anther original working loco and halfway between them is the re-creation of the Lartigue Monorail at Listowel....would the three together make enough of an attraction to bring UK enthusiasts to Ireland? Especially as the West Clare have just secured a Cavan & Leitrim 4-4-0 for their line.

so it is rumoured, and three items of rolling stock. Two steam locos is ideal of course to cover overhauls

The West Clare are also planning/building a museum for a collection of 5'3" gauge diesels, and have plans to extend the running line. On that drive from Kerry to Clare I would also recommend the Foynes flying boat museum and the Tarbert Jail as worthy of a visit.

  10. A really iconic machine! I'd go even if it was just cosmetically restored. To have it in working order (again) would be simply fantastic. Hoping the new initiatives will bear fruit ;-)
