Enjoyed a challenging (at times) but enjoyable three days at the gala.

Some excellent runs with the pairings up the bank to Goathland (45428/34092 being the best), along with 31806/34092 and 34092/76079.

75029 was back on good form on the Friday.

31806 seemed below par, not sure how long it expects to hang around for to see if can perform any better.

Friday had delays early on, but think it was only 7 late by close of service, Saturday was very good time keeping wise, Sunday about 30-40 late after 31806 stalled with the 10:26 off Grosmont.

    Thanks to all involved.

31806 slipped to a stand on Sunday morning, due to damp railhead conditions. It did 4 ascents of the bank unaided without slipping.
31806 was "under par" on Sunday due to increased propensity to prime because of alleged problems with the water treatment plant at Pickering.
Drivers of the other locos on Sunday, except 45828 & 34092; experienced bouts of priming. The Q6 in particular.

Wells and 76079 find a gap in the jungle that is the NYMR at the moment. Untitled_Panorama1.jpg

I spent the day filming between Grosmont and Moorgates on the Saturday and I didn't experience any of this overgrowth. I even found a new location and I've been going there for 25 years.

A nice panorama Henry. Good to have met you up at Moorgates.

Had a run behind the Q6 on Monday and it seemed to prime a couple of times.

I was the one in footplate overalls with greasetop hanging around on platform 2 for about 3/4 hour for some people who never turned up (because I'd not been told they weren't coming!) I later brought the K4 down for the 10.30 (which I think you caught) before handing it over to another crew.

So that was you. Nice to have met even if I didn't know who you were at the time. Was a fraught couple of hours as the other half was getting increasingly frustrated at the delay and the complete lack of any public announcement as to the nature of the problem and the possible options. We and others were left to find out for ourselves, hence my question to you and other staff. I realise crap can happen but some sort of announcement would have helped.
Were you on the footplate on any other trips that day?

You keep going on about this and it simply isn't true. The NYMR currently has less lineside vegetation than at any time since closure. A huge amount of clearance work has been done over the past few years.

I just noticed some people coming out of what looked like a garden in Beck Hole and went to investigate and found a fantastic location. I've never seen it on a video or anything but I'm sure there are others I've not discovered.

It's a bit of a laugh but let's not risk income for the NYMR. I doubt it's funny if you're on the permanent way team! Will Wells be hanging around for a bit? It's not on the KWVR gala timetable but I know they haven't given up on it turning up.
