Arriving by road - post on Facebook, indicates that the tender at least has arrived today.

I see there's an addition of an 0830 ex Grosmont on Friday. Any ideas as to whether this is a passenger move or a LE?

The boiler shop foreman reports on the new NYMR forum that 75029 is undergoing a steam test and if all is fine by the end of the day, then it will be available for traffic tomorrow.

The NYMR have been short of guards for sometime.

The 9 am ex Pickering tomorrow is showing as a class 20 diesel on the diesel website.

The loco roster should be available later today. Wells has arrived and should drop into diagrams tomorrow afternoon. The class 20 is on the first train off Pickering tomorrow for operational reasons (not enough room at New Bridge for 4 steam engines being one) and will then top and tail the Battersby run.

Don't bulls**t Mr station! It may have been for operational reasons but there was only one steam loco left at New Bridge last night so there was plenty of room for a second.

So how have past galas been all steam before there was a loco stabling point at Pickering?
As there was an 8.30 from Grosmont arriving at Pickering 9.44am there was your steam loco for the 10.53. Only two steam locos needed to be stabled at Pickering not four.

By way of an explanation for those that don't know why a diesel is provided on the Battersby run during a steam gala, there is not enough time to run round when the train gets to Battersby so it has to be top'n'tailed. The reason why one loco is a diesel is the fact that the water column at Grosmont is only 2000 gallons and not enough to supply two steam locos so a diesel is necessary for this. The train also has to be five coaches max as the loop at Glaisdale is not long enough to accept more than five and two locos and safely pass a train. If there is no train to pass, longer trains can be accommodated.

A fantastic couple of runs behind Wells this afternoon, with the locomotive almost unfairly dismissing Goathland Bank. Absolutely stormed the gradient, with a driver who handled it beautifully. No slipping whatsoever, with the only issues being the obligatory centring at Grosmont at the very beginning, and a sharp stop at New Bridge, allegedly due to a missing tail lamp. Possibly the best couple of runs I've had with a Bulleid on a preserved railway.

A selection of shots from Friday and part of Saturday including the above mentioned storming runs of 'Wells'. Many thanks to all involved at the NYMR
