From what I can gather there are 6 NG15s in the UK

    NG120 - WHHR
NG121 - The secret collection that shall not be named
    NG133 - FR/WHR
    NG134 - FR/WHR
    NG135 - Exmoor
    NG146 - Brecon

Which is the closest to being operational?

    Can't answer your question, but

I don't think 146 is still at Brecon? I think it may have moved to Southern England somewhere, in 2009.
Similarly, is 120 still with WHHR?

No, just checked through this and NG120 is now at a private location somewhere.

Could NG146 be with Rob Gambrill?

I believe that the only NG15 currently being restored is NG134 at Dinas on the Welsh Highland Railway. The restoration is quite advanced and the small team undertaking the job have thus far completed a very thorough overhaul, they have web presence here:

    http://www.ng15-134.co.uk/index.html

Plenty of history and info on the NG15s, plus comprehensive coverage of the detailed restoration of NG134.

    Cheers,

    Alan

According to the latest Heritage mag.
The one from Exmoor and previously owned by Peter Best is now at Dinas or somewhere on the WHR

The Heritage Railway Magazine article refers to NGG16 Garratts nos. 109 and 130, not NG15 2-8-2s which are very different!

According to my information the following reflects the current situation with the NG15s.
120 - Was sold several years ago in dismantled condition to a private purchaser who remains unknown. There are rumours as to where it is, however!
121 - is in private ownership at Collection X in Surrey
133 - is stored at Dinas, WHR and needs extensive restoration. There are no plans for this at present.
134 - is being restored at Dinas and this is quite advanced. See http://ng15-134.co.uk/Restoration/WPNews.html for further details
135 - is in store at the Exmoor Steam Railway in Devon
146 - Was indeed at Brecon Mountain Railway but moved several years ago to Collection X.

    I hope that helps
