Purely selfish - but its disappointing for me, as we only get the Royal Duchy, GB tour and maybe the ACE into Cornwall - so most of the times I want to pop out to see something are at least a two hour drive before I start!

Seeing Braunton and 5029 sailing light engine with no support coach through Truro last year 5 minutes walk from my house was very special :)

I'm sure there would be a market for a tour with a smaller engine to do plymouth > penzance and back - maybe plymouth > newquay or plymouth > falmouth.. less hills past bodmin!

Never mind, this weather can't last..!!!

Again, being selfish, I too will be disappointed if the Duchy doesn't run with steam. But, living beside Hemerdon, half the grass in my garden is dead through lack of water. Although there are some showers forecast this week I don't think it will make much difference. With the potential track problems NR have with the hot weather, I think it is better to take the safe option and not risk disruption to normal services.

The Royal Duchy on 12 July has also been cancelled, it seems. It is no longer shown at the RTC website.

Oh the irony. It rained cats and dogs on Sunday, but NR can't allow a run on the off chance it'll be a wet day. Strange thing is the Torbay Express ran. Is it really so different west of Newton Abbot?

Loads of rain in Plymouth on Sunday. I assume there is another reason for the Duchy not running yesterday.

Thanks for that information. What was it then, lack of bookings?

Yes I know. I thought the 5th was cancelled due to fire risk but was any reason stated for the 12th?

Low bookings, they were giving discounts on the 5th. before it was cancelled due to fire risk, a lot of cancellations to other charters as well due to low bookings.

Given the uncertainty of the recent situation with WCRC it is not that surprising that bookings have suffered. Hopefully they will recover before to long.

As the next Duchy is in a couple of weeks, does anyone know if Tangmere's 'flats' have been sorted?

It would be nice if one of the Carnforth fleet made it down to the west just once, although unlikely,a Scot or Jub over the banks would be interesting.

like it or not most likely to be Tangmere, a slim chance of Britannia doing it if Tornado does the Torbay, otherwise nothing else. a bit drastic and nasty hoping the flats have not been sorted. that is of course unless you prefer a diesel on it!
