760 is a favourite to ruin/join your day as it's dual braked.

I totally disagree with every word you said there & agree with 1020.
Very poor comment from a so called steam tour steward & steam "enthusiast".
Answer to your first sentence, NO it will never be a thing of the past as long as it goes on.

Thought you'd given up on steam tours anyway, seeing as you can't put your head out of the window!

The last thing we need is costs going up as Ralph pointed out. Some of us struggle to pay today's prices.

I have, head/window is not the only reason. If you struggle to pay, don't travel especially with all of the current uncertainties.
Even more reason to get what you pay for. I definitely wouldn't spend £100+ to travel on a "steam" tour strapped in a straight jacket & chained to a seat. And to put my hand up to teacher to ask if I could go to the toilet or get a drink or something.
Also shoved around by a box thrown into the bargain.

Meanwhile the thread is commenting on some fine images of SNG on the line where she belongs and doing what she does best with, on the face of it, a diesel shunter being taken along for the ride. A4 plus 14 equivalent? Not a real problem.

Just so. Why let some good photos (and a decent video or two on YouTube if you look) get in the way of some arguably irrelevant comments that actual bear little resemblance to the reality of my most recent trip with steam the other week.

Well it isn't..The one you had failing with a generator flashover was 47245,this is 47760.Two major differences , the eth orange box on the front and the number, bit like 44871 isn't 45305 ,44932 or 45407....oh and 47760 still works..

It is from my point of view - and Mr Moderator I thought I was allowed to express my opinion here. And yes, I would be more than happy to pay extra on fares to ensure a box doesn't have to be dragged around when it's not needed to assist, as today when it appears to be switched out. I agree with Al that there are really good pics and videos of the afternoon and it's so good to see No7 where she should be. But it spoils video clips for me when the rear of the train is a Class 47. I'm not going to make excuses for being a steam purist. It's cost me in the past and will no doubt in the future when we choose not to travel when a box appears. I'd actually like to know what the cost per ticket would be. Never seen it quoted but that's probably not for this thread.

But 47746 followed the tour as well. A bit of an over kill.

1020 Shireman Not sure what the relevance of being a mod has to do with me posting my own opinion either.

Can anyone offer any explanation? Whatever the reason(s) for putting a diesel on the back of the train, why should WCRC need to take another one to Edinburgh? Or was the light engine movement unrelated to the tour?

Don't you realize that a lot of people, especially couples, can't afford the current level of fares? Once the £100 level for a day out is breached, you can forget it in principle for many, even if they can afford it. It won't be the ORR that curtails mainline steam, it'll be the cost of tickets.

Anyway, back to 60007 (and 60163 on the Fife circle) - where's JonathonAG? Hope he didn't have to work this weekend, we all value his photographic contributions.
