My copy of Railway Magazine arrived to day. It stated that the Worth Valley's autumn gala will have a "Southern" theme, with 34092 and 75078 being joined by 34053 from the Severn Valley (its first trip away from the line since returning to steam) and 31806 from Swanage. Very tempting, even if for a Southern fan who lives on former SR territory, it will be a 500-mile round trip.

possible 10 engines in steam, not a lot of mileage per day unfortunately

That is my only concern. I'd be quite happy for just the four engines mentioned above to be used although I wouldn't turn my nose up at 43924 or 90733. 5 or 6 locos is quite enough; the KWVR is, after all, less than 5 miles long. I certainly wouldn't travel 500 miles for 5820 - in fact , I wouldn't travel 5 miles for 5820.

Well, this has just pricked my ears............ its my birthday that weekend, and its been donkeys years since I've done a Worth Valley Gala - I wonder if I can persuade the Mrs.............. :)

As for 31806, it does nothing for me - have a zillon photo's of it on the MHR, on a gradient just as vicious as the Valley! though to see it in a different environment would suffice. As for the S160 - dunno why, but I have a soft spot for it, and again its been an eon since I've seen it. Ditto the Std 4, and strangely the last time I saw that - it'd not long been out shopped! ;)

43106 and going back a while 48773?! I also believe 41241's having a bit of work at Bridgnorth. Joking aside theres obviously a good realationship between the 2 railways that can only be a good thing.

Hotels in the area are very reasonable; try Bradford Ibis or Travelodge, or Premier Inn near Crossflatts from my past experience. Apologies for the plug, just trying to be helpful!

2015 Autumn Steam Spectacular – Update by news@kwvr

Due to unforeseen circumstances, it is with sadness that we will are unable to welcome the planned visits of U Class 31806 and Rebuilt Battle Of Britain 34053 'Sir Keith Park' to our Autumn Steam Gala. This is because of restrictions currently in place on road access to the Railway following difficulties with a previous move. We are working hard to source a visiting locomotive that can arrive by rail. The Railway will release further updates as soon as locomotive details and moves are confirmed.

We are grateful to all the efforts of the local authority to solve this problem with us, but it is unlikely to be in time for the October gala.

Well, it would benefit the owners as they would get the hire fees. How long is she due to stay at the ELR? Trouble is it's a long way to move her on the ML.
