And in a part of the world known for its metal bashing. Rather proud to come from around there so many parts for new builds have been made in a 2/3 radius from where I used to live.

Just spotted this welcome sight on the Betton Grange website, which I thought was well worth linking to from here.

Some fantastic progress on various new builds. Given the title of the thread, I think it's anyone's guess as to which new build will be the next to be completed.

However, I would say that there are four clear front-runners in the completely/almost completely new-build series:- the G5, the P2 the Patriot (OK, the tender isn't new build) and 82045
and four front-runners in the "new build using some significant bits of other engines" category: the Saint, Betton Grange, Beachy Head and 84030.

This isn't to decry some other schemes, which do look to have the essentials in place to make their locos become a reality - they're just not as far advanced.

I take it you have actually read it?? Its a piss take. Hence why it says there are only about 70 preserved, and they plan to run it at the RH&DR

I see what you did there!! Lol. Yes old Blue Peter in the Crewe DMD (should now be SMD really). Due for the overhaul to start once Royal Scot and Braunton are both back out running. And maybe Bittern also... cant remember what they said when i last asked them.

Do you mean that it's now going to be the next new build to be finished?! That would be good.

I've only just noticed that as well as two separate projects to build P2s, there are also two separate projects to build B17s. Where's the sense in that? I can see that there are deep-seated differences between the P2 teams and no prospect of any combining of resources there, but is it just as bad between the two B17 teams?

Not sure about any ill will between the 2 B17 groups, but neither have very good websites and neither seem to have the financial base to make much progress compared to other projects such as the P2 or 82045. Neither group seems to have a base with workshop facilities that would be required for a new build loco. One group has a set of frames and 2 tenders and the other group has a tender and a cab. IMHO it would've been much better as a single project.
