After reading the reports of rolling stock being moved to the old Crewe Diesel depot I'm curious as to what the current situation is with the building now? I thought I read that it required roof repairs when it was first announced that JH had agreed to taking on the site, I assume any repairs must now be complete then?

I'd love to see some up to date pic's of the site and its transformation into the new LNWRH restoration base. I guess information will be announced as and when JH is happy for any info to be released.

    Best Wishes

    Paul

I've just been talking to a railway enthusiast from Crewe, meter reader for SSE, and he says the roof has been renewed.

The BBC filmed the movement of 60532 Blue Peter from Barrow Hill to Crewe on March 18th. This film will be shown on Thursday, May 14th at 5.00pm on the Blue Peter programme which is now transmitted on the CBBC channel.
The Blue Peter TV programme will be following the progress of the overhaul of 60532 and will be showing periodical up-dates.

I can't imagine that JH actually needs to ask the children for their pocket money to help fund the overhaul! On this rare occasion it would appear that money is one resource that is not in short supply, instead I'd imagine it’s the skilled manpower that is the biggest limiting factor which are currently occupied with Royal Scot etc!

I suspect that your comment was actually aimed towards the BBC, however do not underestimate the benefit of the free advertising and the large viewing base that this programme will reach. Having the regular updates and national coverage can only boost the popularity and interest in this loco.

Focusing on the overhaul, it made very pleasant reading seeing the new Crewe facility in the latest Steam Railway mag, it’s certainly a very impressive facility! JH is building a very professional outfit!

I applaud your comments, as mine was a little Tongue in Cheek. However even JH's pockets are not bottomless, and if contributing something to Bluepeter in anyway gets young hearts and minds 'Bought -in' to the idea of breathing new life into a Steam engine ( although she doesnt present a particularly sorry picture), even if the financial contribution is not significant that is perjhaps good reason so to do. It perhaps Means that JH can justify training another apprentice/ overhauling another Loco/ rescuing another ...

60532 "doesn't present a particularly sorry picture" because had it had a quick coat of paint to put it on show at Barrow Hill. Under that nice green paint there's one very tired boiler and a middle cylinder that is totally past its "use by date" and will need to be replaced.

One thing that Blue Peter appeals never ask for is cash, so can't see that happening. I do think its a great bit of PR to have regular updates on the BBC though.

If it gets the rug rats interested in steam, or railways in general, it can only be a good thing.

Seconded, I remember the TV program showing 60532's return to steam in the early '90s and it certainly helped to strengthen my intrest.

It is certainly going to need more than pipe cleaners, sticky backed plastic and a pair of Val's old knickers!!

If the coverage extends to seeing new bits being interestingly made that would be fantastic, as would a section on the BBC /Bluepeter webpage as would exploring the link to Torrnado.. Would Tornado be the Big Sister (Longer legs) the Little sister ( younger...) or the Twin ( non identical) Sister. Would they have an Aunt Called Flying Scotsman...? . what am i dribbling on about.....

Indeed, dribble it may be, but such inanities are perfectly in line with the platform-end bubble that many of the contributors to this and other threads inhabit........

    Cheers

And, after all, we are discussing a programme aimed at children. (Actual children, not overgrown ones like some of us on here.)
