The latest episode of BBC's "Call the Midwife" includes a rare sighting of the multi-tender steam locomotive:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b052qwwk/call-the-midwife-series-4-episode-4
Fast forward to 15:22 (the bit after the syphilis section - sorry! :Yuck:) and keep an eye on the viaduct.

Does anyone know which heritage railway provided the loco for this programme? :Jawdrop:

I suspect a bit of photographic "cut and paste" from filming a model railway?

    Cheers, Neil

Ah, yes. Was that the one which ran entirely on viaducts, so didn't have any access to a water supply? Sadly, the high cost of its multi-tendered locos made it uncompetitive and the extreme weight of the locos with their tenders made them unable to pull trucks or carriages. A sad end to a pioneering - but dry - project.

My wife wondered why I was suddenly in hysterics, as she was concentrating on the tear-jerking stories of penniless, sickly people giving birth to perfect babies every couple of seconds.

Disgusting - I shall demand by license fee back if the BBC continue to use foreign steam locomotives. If only the CGI designers had consulted NatPres first, s/he would have been given lots of "advice" about the best choice of locomotive. Or maybe their only knowledge of steam locos is the RH&DR?

Seems a shame because there are much nicer locos available on that same site - Birch Grove is one of them

Come on, man! "Shoot the Midwife" is based in Poplar (north London). We wouldn't want any of that funny southern stuff up there. It ain't orffentik, like?

The Bluebell Railway should have pulled their socks up then and got the NLR tank working for that clip then.

But someone on a railway forum would have picked them up on the anachronism, as the NLR tank would have been on the Cromfird and High Peak by the 1950s timeframe of Call the BAFTA Judges...

I hear they're making a sequel, based in the 2000s. The working title is "Phone NHS Direct - then go to casualty anyway" - not very snappy, but far more realistic.

Look out for the background shot of a Bus Replacement Service featuring a modern comfortable bus - totally unauthentic.

Sod it, I sent a complaint about it. Lazy CGI artists who can't be bothered to research anything.

And in keeping with the era they could have Elvis singing 'Love me tender' in the background.

Are we sure it wasnt a certain 4-6-0 from the Island of Sodor on the way to pick up his '6 lovely tenders?'

I'm sure there will be people on historic cycle/surgical instrument/medical uniform forums who are spitting feathers about other details.
