Perhaps 5029 is being repaired for preserved line use only?

Either the boiler's knackered or it isn't?

I see the post on Facebook has been edited and now includes " (subject to boiler repairs being completed in time)".

I am guessing the locos appearing at Swanage is by agreement with LSL, so am guessing they are going to be working on 5029 in January through to March, does anyone know her present location? Southall?

4771 ran at reduced boiler pressure for her final few years on preserved lines. Depending upon the seriousness of 5029 failure, this maybe an option if they take a similar route to that they've taken with 4464?

Just to keep this thread up to date in advance of a press release, 5029 will NOT be attending the Swanage Spring Gala.

A replacement has been organised, and will be announced imminently; lets just say quite a lot of us down here in Dorset are very excited...

The 1F has undergone a fast-track overhaul, and will be double-heading with Cunarder all weekend...

From the press release - "We are delighted to announce that Southern Railway V Class, no.925 "Cheltenham" will be visiting us for our Spring Steam gala which runs from the 17th-19th of April.

    The home fleet will consist of 31806, 30053, 80104, 34070 and 6695.

"Cheltenham" stands In for No.5029 "Nunney Castle" which has had to bow out due to boiler problems.

The Southern Railway V Class, also known as the Schools class, were built between 1930 and 1935 and the class eventually numbered 40 locomotives.
All were named after famous public schools.

The V class were the last 4-4-0 locomotives to be built in the UK and remain the most powerful 4-4-0 ever built in Europe.

We are grateful to our friends at the The Mid Hants Railway 'Watercress Line' and the National Railway Museum for the loan of No.925.

An announcement will be made shortly with regards to further visitors for Spring Steam Gala!"

Does the Swanage run any sort of bus shuttle connection to Wareham from Norden?

Always think a lot of lines miss out on a very obvious win by not doing this.

Swanage does not need to. Hourly advertised buses run from Wareham station through Wilts and Dorset buses.

Not that we know of; the "Schools" axle loading was too heavy prior to preservation era bridge and embankment work.

Thank you Nigel. I may well follow Cheltenham west for the gala. I am on a photo-charter with the U-boat at Swanage next month, always a pleasure to visit.

As has been said, Schools class locos were never recorded as venturing 'down the branch'. It does however mark something of a return to Dorset for 925, with it having been shedded at Bournemouth from 1937.
