Will be interesting to see if they have to reschedule the timings due to lower speed traction

Bit surprised WCR hasn't added an electric or 2 of its own to the fleet. Might become more attractive as electrification spreads across the north.

Perhaps the answer is not to tell Network Rail since as it stands its FL nearly all the way. But what a treat for the diesel fans assuming, that is, they can take the thrash.

We can only hope that both are actually working, as that will be the only way it has any chance of keeping to the schedule.

How long before the leccy on the back debate starts if he does!
Or the livery debate over a maroon 86 or 87.
Joking apart its not just the north thats getting electrified so the business case may be improving.

I would expect both of the front to stand any chance of keeping near to the schedule.

Not being a Electric or Diesel fan to be honest but what are the difference in speed limits for these two types of locos .

    95 for the 47's & 110 for the 86. I think

It is not just speed its acceleration. Andy Taylor of West Coast posted on here that an Electric departing from Euston will reach 100mph by Wembley ( 8 miles) while a Diesel will reach 100mph by Tring ( 31 -32 miles)

If it were to be top and tail to Carnforth, what the chances of the loco on the rear being kept on the train when the Duchess is put on....?

I would have thought that the idea would be to work the two 47s double headed in multiple to get the train up to speed that bit faster.

Hopefully loco that works stock from Southall into euston unhooks like previous tours ran with the electric...

The 86 can do 100 plus mark 1s and 2s are limited to 100.

From previous experience there hasnt been that much prolonged / sustained 100mph running, and there's plenty of slack in the schedule.
It's a very stop / start run, the Electric's really excels is, with the acceleration, thats what the 2nd 47 would bring.

I doubt it'll affect the schedule that much (famous last words)

Pity they couldn't have found one of those mainline approved Deltics...or even a 50... capable of 100mph easily.

it's the annual Moderators day out this saturday on this trip so by Northampton we will no longer have any idea whats going on.

As we're going via Weedon then that will be interesting. Anyway, by the time we get to Milton Keynes we will no longer have any............

The idea I believe is the 47's on the front . Can't see why a Duchess would need a can on the back as they normally had 16 on in steam days gone past .

    2x 47s and 3x 57s currently sat at Southall.

Didn't realise they cut out the Northampton stop.. I guess what was speeded up just got traded off :)

Heads up those south of the river.. Thameslink is shut this weekend.. trains terminating at Blackfriars... It's making my journey to the capital interesting.
