Just left Victoria with only 5407 on the front, said to be FTR failure for Leander.

Leaking washout plug discovered this morning so failed since she has to cool down first to fix. So we're down to a black5 from the initial 2 jubilees. Oh well, at least we're still steam hauled. Coach G, 3 & 4.

That's sad and let's hope 45407 can time the train with that load on her own. The leaking washout plug is an odd one as if it was only discovered this morning then I'm surprised it wasn't also apparent at least 24 hours previously assuming that the FTR exam included a test to full boiler pressure as it should. Either way, it probably wouldn't have given time to fix it or make ready an alternate.

If they are taking the Cl 47 - and this makes sense at one level - it does change the whole nature of the trip but I guess that was inevitable. There will be many disappointed pure steam folk.
