I've missed that. There wasn't anything in Joint Line about the Y14 being load limited. Why is that?

I thought the max train length on the NNR was five bogie coaches and that was within the capacity of the J15/Y14 so is the laod limit more theoretical than practical?

There is a plan to extend the platforms so they an have longer trains, I guess that could alter things if and when it happens. TBH I read Davesrailphotos's post as implying there was some new load limitation, hence my response. If that is the case it certainly wasn't mentioned in Joint Line

No? That was what was proposed (I think) in (Not the most recent but the previous or one before) Joint Line, with platform extensions at Weybourne also.

Is 76084 leaving at the end of 2015? I was under the impression it was on a two year loan

Sorry for not replying. My implication was a new load limit, to keep the y14 away from the five coach summer trains

Is that because there was evidence she'd been thrashed, because there are near life-expired parts, because the railway has more options now, because the railway has become more risk-averse or because the backdating has made her less able to cope? (I doubt this, it was only cosmetic wasn't it)

The plans show a straightened headshunt which does increase the workable length of the platforms (particularly Platform 1). Couple this to the plan of replacing the foot crossing with a footbridge and I can see Sheringham being able to take 6 coaches comfortably. Holt is not an issue so only Weybourne will be a sticking point for running regular 6 coach trains.

Talk round the loco sheds is that the Y14, being a "new-un" for the railway so fresh from overhaul, will see pretty indiscriminate regular use once it returns. They seem to have high hopes for its usage once it returns!

It appears exciting news comes in threes. In addition to the grant funding mentioned above, it has been announced the second visitor for the March steam gala is Pannier 1501 and Class 27 D5401 is to visit for the summer season and will also star in the June diesel gala.
