As the name implies, this thread is primarily for discussion about diesel and electric traction and is a partner to the equivalent steam traction thread. So it is not really intended as a place to post photographs (especially archival images) unless, of course, these relate to what is being discussed, for example a query on something specific. A few pictures on here have already been moved but to avoid upsetting too many people can I just suggest that new images are posted in the more appropriate place?

The separate photography thread, that also includes sections for archival images, is at:

  2. I had a moan about this some time back and got told where to get off, so I'm glad that someone else has finally got fed up with it too.

Why is the elephant in the room consistently ignored? The problem is only with one person who has been asked on numerous occasions to cut it out. And doesn't for more than a week each time there are complaints...

I can't see the problem with posting images of diesels in a diesel traction section. It's not as though it's compulsory to view them nor even the message continuing the links

I agree; if it were not for nieldimmer, there would be precious few posts of any kind on this thread. Perhaps that's the real problem- not enough members are interested in modern traction.

As Big Al says this bit is meant for the same sort of thing as the steam section it's up there in black and white for all to see, there is a perfectly good photography section for a certain someone to show off his various collections. Some of us would like to use this bit of the forum for the same sort of topics on the steam section. It really seems that said certain person seems to have had a monopoly on this section for a while and perhaps now people are starting to make a stand because their fed up. I love archive phots but Im fed up of seeing this part of the forum being treated as 1 mans personal photo gallery.

Neild does tend to use the scatter gun approach when posting - I've lost count of how many groups he post to - but I don't see the harm. If his posts trouble people so much then they have the option of putting him on their "ignore" list.

Well start a thread then. I just can't see the fuss. If you see a post from Neil then just ignore it. Simples.

Then why don't you and the other complainants, post some more interesting topics? I fail to see why the fact that someone posts photos on here prevents others from posting more relevant items.

As one of the mods seems to be a complainant, why doesn't he move Neil's posts into the relevant section?

Already have. But when a Mod posts something saying please dont do something on here shouldnt that rule be obeyed? I believe a certain someone has been told about posting links to their blog, they seem to have taken it onboard and listened why is ND any different?

I suspect you are correct. Several members, myself included, have gently moved away from this section (or indeed the entire forum!) for a time as there have been a few diesel based discussions that have been, how can I put it, "robustly dismantled" by some rather pro-steam individuals :) Other (more diesel/electric based) places have proven more productive in getting sensible responses to diesel themed discussions. Not that I'm saying modern traction members are any more sensible - there are just as many ludicrous posters and discussions on those other forums as well!!

I recall that there have been discussions in the steam section that have been robustly dismantled, by the majority of members.
