Not the fact the door is welded shut, but that the hinge butts, or half of each one still protrudes from the body!

    Woe betide the unwary...........

As for mainline wotsits, not got a Scooby, doesn't matter now does it!

Thank you, I think the meal went down well last night, mind you I think some of the fat from the gammon might have got on the rails as 45379 slipped a few times during the evening!

Yes... It was good to put a face to the name.
Hope you enjoyed the night, I didn't get far from the Bar (or the Mince Pies) for most of the night, so not sure how it went other than a lot of beer was drunk and the third carriage looked as if someone was trying to open a municiple pool (good job we have the mop).

Ooh, that would be nice. It could site in Cheltenham Racecourse station as my private train and take me to Winchcombe workshops whenever I felt like it, all I'd need in addition is a small steam loco to go with it... :D

Presumably you'd have a couple of private staff as well to get up and prep the loco a few hours before you decided to honour the workshop with your presence? ;)

Hmmm, Lord FS123 of Winkstead Hall has a certain ring about it, with your faithful butler-cum-engine driver Brackett...

I think most of us have had that little daydream. Sir Bill McAlpine had his own with a Balcony I cant remember if it was Great Northern or Great Eastern. Either way it must have been a great way to get about especially with his own motive power on the front.

    Not anymore it don't..........

It, if IIRC its privately owned, its covered with tarp as it has a rather leaky roof, which is why it hasn't run for at least the last 3 years.........

What was that price again? (Actually, none is quoted - it's the amount spent on refurbishment, allegedly 3 years ago, so can't have seen much use before the roof started leaking).

I wondered why it was for sale - if you have one, a saloon can generate a useful amount of both business and goodwill - our family have all our "big" birthday "dos" in the GW saloon on the NYMR - but I think that any saloon would struggle to generate the sort of income needed to justify the price that they seem to change hands for these days, especially if work is needed in addition.

Doesn't say much for the standards at LNWR Crewe does it?....... 85K & all you get is a leaky roof.................

IIRC the Obo featured in a couple of gala's & a few private hires - nowhere near its earning potential - yet it wasn't marketed enough, or made known it was for hire as far as I know...... the leaking roof probably put the Kibosh on that idea...... one things for sure, its not earned its keep & I'm surprised the thing hasn't had the repairs undertaken at Crewe given the monies spent........

The one at the SVR has suffered a similar fate, leaky roof, under a tarp, that's why GWSR got rid of it after doing an excellent job of restoring it...
