If you have trouble with videos streaming from YouTube not playing smoothly particularly when in HD try this downloader.
    http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/download.html
It lets you download the video to your PC then you play it back in HD without any problems.
This may have been posted in the past but I have not seen it before.

Or you could just click on pause and wait for the bar to reach the other side and then press play!

I had always assumed that it wasn't possible to download video from YouTube, therefore I haven't been putting a copyright notice on my creations. Thank you for this perhaps other YouTubers should take notice!

    Regards

I have found that particularly with HD you can wait for ever for the bar to move across... and also it means that once downloaded you get instant playback whenever you want it.

There might be a problem with your broadband connection; it might be worthwhile testing it. When I tested my ADSL I found that the download speed was 7.89Mb and the upload 778Kb. I thought this was a bit slow so I looked around and found that other suppliers weren't much better. Even Virgin Media fibre optic cable connection was going to be 10Mb download but the upload was slower at 512kb.

Because of this I stopped uploading in HD, it was just taking too long - up to 4.5hrs (!), and carried on in Pinnacle's 'DVD compatible' .mpg file. YouTube then does whatever work it needs to do to convert this into its HQ mode.

I have no problem downloading HD, I too wait until the file is downloaded just as Ken ('pennysteam') does and it works just fine.

The download speed does vary on the time of day, because of congestion in the network. Although speed of your connection to the network (ie your connection to the local exchange) will never change, the network beyond that can and does get very congested. You might find that the problem lies with YouTube's equipment being overloaded at these times.

    Regards

I've just done a couple of tests, first tried viewing from Youtube an HD clip, kept stopping and even when I stopped it to wait for the bar to run across it took ages. Tried in HQ, no problem. Downloaded to PC and worked fine, and it seemed to download a lot quicker than waiting for the bar to complete.
The checked my down and upload speeds with three different web sites.
Download varied from 5200Kbps to 5800Kbps with upload all around 370Kbps. Conclusion my connection is a pretty good one especially as I'm out in the sticks.

If you use Firefox you can get a great add-on called DownloadHelper.
It works with Youtube and many, many other video sites.

There is also an add on with the latest Realplayer which allows you download videos from Youtube & other online videos. It works with IE & I think Firefox. As BillR says though, I use Download helper with Firefox.
