    Ok, a little bit of brainwork for us all. Since Digital has been around for many years now;

What are your three best photos of the Decade, that you have taken?

If there's a story behind them, why not share that too?

I'll post mine in a bit

Well I only really got seriously into photography in 2007 when I bought my DSLR so all my best ones will be from then up to present. My top three are: (I have to post links to them, I can't upload photos, it's a problem at my end)

    1. http://www.flickr.com/photos/spinner673/3918741929/ - Taken at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on a very cold day in February 2008 and has got very admiring looks from everyone I have shown it to.

    2. http://www.flickr.com/photos/spinner673/3696879203/ - 60163 Tornado on the first Torbay of 2009 at Creech St. Michael, this photo nearly didn't happen because of a failure of my Geography and was on the wrong side of the bridge until I heard her chime whistle very close behind me, I rushed across the bridge and pointed the camera at her. I can't claim any artistic flare, this is almost how it came out of the camera.

    3. http://www.flickr.com/photos/spinner673/3650233556/ - Tornado on the Cathedrals Express in June 2009, I was about worried about how it would come out, I tried to get the right settings using a few service trains to get my bearings and then she came streaking through at somewhere around 50 - 60mph blowing off and this was the one good photo I got.

Tricky, I chose this one from my first trip to Ffestiniog, I had dabled with railway photography before this, but this trip blew me away. As it happend it was a short lived first trip as my care developed problems and there was no dealer in the area, so after 4 days we left on the back of an truck.

My second shot was purely a chance shot, didn't even have my best camarea with me as I had opted to video only, but just took along a small compact I had picked up, We were walking round to a popular spot that I have been many times before, but this time I opted to go a differrent way by chance. As we walked down the field to the usual spot the view suddenly summend up KWVR in one, I stopped dead in my tracks, set up the camcorder and sinse it was a narrow shot I opted to just let the train run thew the set location, thumbled aroudn in my bag and fished out the camera, the result was this.

My third choice was not so easy to choose, as I have been to so many greate event's and also my walks in the moors around sheffield I have found some special locations like Abney Low, but I have opted to go back to wales and Tally railway, Another trip I was mainley filming and again I found a new angle that I had over looked before. This time I found it becase I couldn't park the car in the usual spot and as a result parked it round the corner, as a result I found a diffent't angle at the ideal time of year.

The following film end's with the above location with the train arriving that is taken in the photo, I just managed to get the photo before having to pan the camcorder.

I honestly thought this thread would be packed with stuff by now - great idea - deserves to be popular!

    My fav three are here;

    http://johnleyland736.mediaobject.co.uk/p57693759.html

The A4 because she looked and sounded great! Shame she was failed with an air brake problem shortly after.

    http://johnleyland736.mediaobject.co.uk/p57715562.html

The Standard 4 - because the weather was perfect for a classic shot!

    http://johnleyland736.mediaobject.co.uk/p62028762.html

The Czech 4-8-2 because, although not an action shot, there was something majestic about her sitting and sizzling on a cool morning with a distict smell of autumn leaves mixed with steam and warm oil - timeless.

Here my 2 penny worth. I found it very difficult to pick my favourite 3 because I like so many picture for different reasons. I am also relatively new to the photography game and have recently started to use the manual setting on my camera sometime with good result other without.

Here my first entry this is the church at clumber park taken on boxing day 09. This was me trying my new Len (wide angle)

Here is my second entry this is again taken at clumber park on boxing day 09. This also has the same story behind it learning to use my camera manual setting and also playing with my new lens.

Last but not least my finale entry 60007 this was taken at barrow hill steam gala photography evening. This was taken in between setting our desk for the Yorkshire Engine Co 2521.

Sorry for the picture been huge i need to find out how to make them smaller.

    I hope you all like

    Cheers
    Andy

    These are my three.

The first 'The Patagonian Express' on an RTC tour of Chile and Argentina.
    The second, Pacifics at Crewe.
The third, again on an RTC tour this time in Zimbabwe 'walking with liona', in a safari park. This was one of a pair that a group of 5 of us took for an evening walk in the bush. They were about 12 months old and fairly tame...
Each shot has many memories attached, they may not be good photographically, but represent a record of the event.

Picking out my favorite 3 photos is more difficult than I first thought it would be and I can't do it but I would say that my favorite four are:

http://william.fotopic.net/p59990884.html Mainly because I love Caledonia, it has a sense of motion in it and I was jolly lucky to learn that Cale was running

http://william.fotopic.net/p60582328.html As it has a very agreeable combination of steam and Beer! Plus the Lincoln traction engine rally is in my opinion the best rally (possibly) after the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

http://william.fotopic.net/p61399474.html As i like the Super D, it is almost timeless (although I personally don't like describing photos as timeless) and it is just a bit different even if it just that the Super D is running tender first.

    http://william.fotopic.net/p60020257.html
http://william.fotopic.net/p60020259.html I have grouped these two together as they show that the IMR is still timeless (damn I said it again!)

Like everyone else, I can't pin it down to three. I haven't looked extensively through my collection, but here goes.

I'm going to cheat here and have a top three of three categories.

These are my top three steam:

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51844422.html
A panned shot of 9F no. 92214 at Burrs on the ELR

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51846590.html
    76079 and 45407 Leaving Bolton

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51846749.html
6201 Steaming through Brock in the rain

These are my top three Diesel/Electric:

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51959283.html
D7076 at Bury ELR at night

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51844421.html
47402 at Burrs on the ELR

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p51959931.html
A piece of the abandoned Radcliffe North Junction on the Manchester Metrolink system

These are my top three overseas:

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p62918499.html
23004 on display at night at Istanbul

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p62918630.html
A waterlogged turntable at Kumasi, Ghana

    http://graham-williams.fotopic.net/p62918504.html
An everyday scene at Acra Central station in Ghana

I think that the last one is probably my favourite shot of the decade. You may not agree, but I love it.

I spent a month in Hohoe, Volta Region in August 2008 and that image sums up the relaxed way of life in Ghana. I liked the shot of Kumasi as I didn't get to see much railway infrastructure whilst out there, so found it very interesting.
