Hard to believe its coming through Dewsbury.
    (nothing seems to nowadays)
One weeks ago was advertised as this route and changed (to us) at the last minute.

(edited to add it was the Buxton Spa Express. Plus maybe its because this one is on a Sunday !)

I'm considering going out to see this tour somewhere in the Manchester area. Can anyone reccomend any good vantage points around Miles Platting bank please? I'm not really familiar with that area, unfortunately... Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

There is really only one place on Miles Platting bank, next to the A664 Rochdale Road bridge.
    miles platting - Google Maps
There are the remains of another bridge over two tracks or you can go on the north side and look over the wall. You will need decent steps as the wall is some 8 foot high. This side is not much good for stills as the sun, as you can see from the Google pic taken fairly early in the morning, is on the wrong side. Video works OK as you get the long shot virtually from the end of the platform. Some still photographers shoot from over the wall on the south side but although not that high you still need small steps to give you enough height.

Another location would be to turn right from the above location into Osborne Street, over the railway bridge and then turn left into Rimworth Drive, this takes you higher up Platting Bank to the fork of the lines that once led to Manchesters Oldham Road station, the viaduct abutements are still in situ, but again a small pair of steps will be helpful here

An image from Whiston Station in dismal weather (an understatement) but unfortunately even with my Cokin "sunshine" filter, the image would not get any better - taken at 2000asa!! "Lizzie" was going well here, nice to see and hear. Comments welcome.
