Just been looking at the times for 60009 on the return. There is 15 min stop at Melton Mowbray, only 3 mins at Kettering ,the normal stopping place for water ,then the normal 3 mins at setting down stations to Brent Curve with 15 mins there.(water ?)That would be 100 miles or so and 3hours of steaming without a water stop.. Is there something we don't know.?.

She can run an extra 50 miles on the hot air being generated about her future in the 60009 thread ;)

I did look at those yesterday. But it looks like Kettering and Barrow Hill on the way up and Barrow Hill and Melton on the way back. As you say (according to Railmiles) 108 miles from Melton to Southall. Probably not much other reason to stop at Brent Curve at that time of night. Last year it looks although the same trip went out via Melton it came back down the mainline from Loughborough and took water at Kettering. Of course the comment from 60017 is very valid!

A rare run on the Up Fast these days on the MML between Bedford Sth Jn and Silkstream Junction also looks interesting! Flitwick/Harlington would be ideal for southbound video on the 1-in-200 grade.

Nice to see the Duchess this morning, even if it was rather gloomy.... Still, a shot is a shot!

Probably the trip that I will regret not being on. Never mind that there are two quality locos for the price of one. It's unassisted steam up the MML which is rare.

Would be nice if the RTC were to offer it again at a time of the year when you could enjoy the journey home in daylight.

I'm on the 6th December trip up the ECML. I need to find a small photo frame and a picture of my mother to carry with me: the date is both the tenth anniversary of her death and would have been her 88th birthday.

The return is going to be late as the set was being shunted in by 6233 at departure time and no. 9 is yet to be seen.
