Return with 60009 is via Leicester/Mkt Harboro'. Not a bad time Leicester to Kettering ,34 mins, and that includes crossing from main to slow at Kettering North Jnc.Round about 31 mins for non stoppers was about the booked time in steam days. Restriction thro' Mkt Harboro', for the curve ,has been considerably eased since then ,so a run at the climb to Desboro 'is now possible.

That's a brilliant enthusiasts' trip. Well done to the RTC and WCRC for staging it. If you are on the train from the beginning then you get not far short of 14 hours behind two 'top of the range' steam locomotives. What's not to like? Well, it is conceivable that some folk won't appreciate being stuck on a train all day with a little over an hour at York. And, of course most of the return is in the dark.

Try that model again in the summer with long daylight hours and I'll be on it.

Took a punt at a spin between York and Kettering on the basis of the rare track through Market Harborough.

A fine run, low water pressure suggested to be the cause of the delay at Barrow Hill. Left about 22 down, and a crew change at Chesterfield. Advertised pathing stop at Syston S was waived and we picked up speed towards Leicester. A pretty decent run up the climbs, passing through Market Harborough at a fair lick.

Arrived at Kettering, where I had a tight connection (which at one point looked impossible to meet) for a sensible return to York, only 9 down; the service train was running three late, so even enough time for a quick record shot.

Would I do it again? Probably, but I would have preferred to have made prior arrangements to board from a pickup station. This was a wee bit too spur of the moment for my liking! But 60009 has now got me out of the proverbial for a second time, and it will indeed be a sad day when it finally bows out.

Coming a bit late to the party, but this is my effort from early on Saturday morning of 46100, taken just north of Harpenden a few minutes after sunrise.
