Just my luck, I was at the 16mm show today and after spending all my money spotted the FR/WHR diesel DVD,hope I can get it via the net.
Can anyone tell me what the status is of the 2 ex Shotton Hunslets that arrived in February? and how the big PW loco for WHR is coming on?
As you may be able to tell I have a liking for internal combustion.

    Cheers

An update on the locomotive situation is on the Unofficial Welsh Highland Railway news site. Its a fair way down in the news section but gives an update on most of the motive power things (mainly steam but Caernarfon, Vale and No 9 are mentioned). Also a few pictures of double headed funkeys are also on there.

Bill and Ben are Hunslet 115hp 4w DHF locomotives (F stands for flameproof) weighing 15 tons apiece. They have 2725cc Ford engines and were delivered new to BSC Shotton for use in their Cold Strip Mill.

No.1 (Bill), works No.9248, left Hunslet's works in Leeds on 23rd August 1985, with No.2 (Ben), works No.9262, following on 20th November 1985. When regauged, it is planned to use the 2'6" gauge locos as heavy shunters - one at Dinas and one at Boston Lodge.

Thanks for the info Duncan and Andrew.
Is there a timetable for 'Bill' and 'Ben' to enter the workshops ? I have seen the pictures and they look like nice bits of kit.

    regards

The last time I was at Dinas ( 6 weeks ago) No 9 is awaiting the return of its wheel sets, and was sat on the coal road on skids.

Either Bill or Ben has it wheel sets dropped out for 'assessment', the verdict was not good as I remember. I doubt they will attract works time, I expect they will get regauged where they are when a mod is worked out.

All three locos need couplings, and vacuum brakes to be fitted as well.

However, Upnor has had some TLC this summer, I look forward to its return.

    Regards

    Peter

I have a wheel set and drive gearbox fully overhauled by Hunslet for the two 115HP diesel locos. Can anybody let me know who I should talk to
with reference to using these spares.
