The planning application on Taunton Deane District Council website seems to suggests that it is in fact WSRA. Who has got it wrong? Or is the plc taking over the shop and cafe at BL? added later ! I see that the plans are labelled West Somerset Railway plc and show the name over the door of the building is West Somerset Railway.

The issue is not which body made the application, but the fact that we have a discrepancy between reports of current activity and visible actions. Again.

And the fact that it is deemed noteworthy by those closer than I suggests this does matter.

Personally I prefer the statement of Robin who IS a WSRA trustee. It would be very odd indeed if she was wrong.

So brave to have a " topless " chara" west Somerset isn't well known for its dry climate , would there have been a top that could of been fitted , can't believe it was only used 6 months of the year at most , or were passengers more hardy then ?

I have taken a moment (during a 5-day trial as it happens) to correct a piece of mis-information. I have stated clearly that the application was not made by the WSRA (I am a WSRA Trustee, so I might know.) and it can be seen that it bears the name of WSR plc Officers. And yet we still have Keith asserting 'the TDBC website suggests that it is the WSRA' ('How?', I might ask.), and we have a suggestion of WSRA empire-building.

One might be forgiven for despairing of bothering to comment or provide information here.

There is an awful lot to do to get the WSR back on an even keel. Please pitch in to help rather than spreading nonsense.

    Robin

P.S. I prefer 'she' these days. Its only been 8 years...

Having read all the apparently conflicting comments on the subject of the BL planning application, I decided to visit the TDBC's planning site at http://www2.tauntondeane.gov.uk/asp/webpages/plan/PlAppDets.asp?casefullref=06/19/0005 and see for myself what it says.

The application form clearly states :
    Applicant Name - Paul Conibeare
Company Name - West Somerset Railway PLC
    Agent Name - Richard Auger

All the plans have "West Somerset Railway Plc" on them along with the company's crest.
The mention of the WSRA as the applicant on the title page is I suspect a mistake that's probably come about because the WSRA will continue to run the shop and cafe as they do at present.

In a BBC Bristol news interview this morning, the WSR plc Chairman, Jonathan Jones-Pratt mentioned that at Christmas he was close to putting the WSR into voluntary liquidation.
After taking further advice he decided to continue to press forward to solve the present financial situation.

    Worrying times indeed. <BJ>

I have raised this point with the planners that they have made a mistake over this.

Hopefully he made the correct decision and future plans ensure the PLC does not sail so close to the wind in future.
What is interesting is that a discussion about who is going to serve cups of tea at Bishops Lydeard seems to have a higher priority for some WSR folk that the near disaster that was almost upon them last December. Incredible!

    I stand corrected.
Please could someone tell TDBC to get their paperwork right.

There was another BBC Bristol news feature this evening regarding the WSR. It may be possible to watch this for yourselves on BBC iPlayer.

Viewers were informed of how the WSR is fighting hard for it's survival. They then cut to the Minehead Rail Link Group who wish to use 'the under utilized WSR line' to provide a new route for all it's residents between Minehead and Taunton. I should imagine that an extension to the length of the railway is the last thing that the railway needs at present, . <BJ>

I hope The Minehead Rail Link Group are in contact with and working with the plc?

From the above it would appear that they seem to be talking a different language!

What authority do you need then as I just sent them an email pointing out the information they posted themselves didn't match what was on the form, and had an email back saying they had corrected the error.

It has always been maintained here that the WSR and the MRLG are poles apart. However, you can bet your bottom dollar that the MRLG are watching events with interest. ;)
