Tornado at Barrow Hill 9 October 2010

The A1 Trust held its Annual Convention for covenantors and other donors at Chesterfield today, followed by a 'private view' of Tornado in action at Barrow Hill roundhouse.

Among points of interest in the morning's presentations included the following. Despite loss of income and increased costs due to two periods out of service from leaking stays, this was mitigated by new business attracted following prompt rectification. Work proceeds on the new support coach but this is proving costly and time consuming. Tornado will appear in BR Brunswick green livery in early 2011. West Coast Railways will also be available to operate Tornado in 2011. Authorisation for 90 mph running is still an objective being worked towards, but as yet there is no firm timescale. The feasibility building of a 'Cock of the North' style P2 is the subject of detailed study, with some expensive technical modelling to be commissioned in the near future. All of these endeavours require substantial continuing financial support.

Members then repaired to Barrow Hill where a group photo was taken with Tornado on the turntable, and running then commenced on the demonstration line, with lucky raffle winners gaining a footplate ride.

A satisfying day out, celebrating many achievements and hopes of greater things to come.
