With Ollie going 'tech', this tour is now to be hauled by the K4 from York to Stanhope, then back to Darlington. From there we were supposed to be taking a run over the Blyth & Tyne before returning to York; however I received a letter from RTC yesterday, advising that engineering works have now caped that, so we're now to be diesel-hauled from Darlington to Boulby, before the K4 returns us to York via Yarm.

Should still be a good trip though :)

Shame the Great Marquess will not lead into Bishop from Darlington but at least there might be an opportunity for a shot for those of us doing the A4 night shoot.

A great day out - it didn't look good, waiting at York, as arrival time came and went... I understand that 47760 failed again, but a grand loco in the shape of 37706 stepped into the breach & brought our train in. Departure 30 mins or so down, but a spirited run from 61994 tried to claw some time back - not easy, as the train seemed to be pretty tightly timed. A good climb out of Saltburn was made; only once did the loco really 'lose her feet', but prompt work on the footplate kept us moving well.

Obviously passing Shildon was going to be of special interest today; Number 9 was on the brakevan ride duty as we passed, parallel running with us as we drew in to the station.

Arrival at Stanhope was 20 mins or so down; just enough time to nip up to the local pub for a swift ale, before an on-time departure back towards Darlington. A few minutes were lost on the return, but what a nice run with a gutsy locomotive and train crews who worked hard to give us all a good day out. Many thanks to all concerned.

I look forward to seeing peoples' photos in due course

Sounded good getting away from Shildon last night, I filmed it from our brake vans on the demo line.

Caught it by the coast in stunning sunshine, packed to the gills it was. "The Great Marquess"

I used to go windsurfing round the corner at Redcar!

Sounded superb departing Darlington also. Some good shots lads, thanks for posting.

My efforts can be found here: steam on the main line network -   - 61994 seen climbing to the summit an Huntcliff, Saltburn, heading for the Boulby potash mine and at Darlington platform 1, pausing to relieve crew before continuing on south to York.

Oh yes - the 'bark' as we started from Darlington echoed round the station :)
