doesn't seem to be much interest in this tour with 55009 (D9009) ‘Alycidon’.

    anyone booked ?

'no platform capacity at Leeds' ?
Does anybody know if it's passing through \Leeds because I was planning to do a bit of linesiding at Dewsbury. I'm guessing it's going Milford/Wakefield/Mirfield
    Ralph is booked on it..

Yup I'm on a busman's holiday, and yes Victor it is going through Leeds but it has been hit by a 'no platforming' policy.

Which will be on the back from York. I wonder if there will be complaints about it being there, spoiling the pure Deltic experience?

Nah, leave it switched off (save fuel) the Deltic will handle it all thank you, the 68 is just along for the ride and to do a bit of shunting at Lime St.
Although I must confess to being a bit of a 68 fan, those Caterpillars sound well when they're working hard.

Pulling out of Lime Street on the mini tour should go down well then, hope there's no loose bits in the tunnels.

Am I alone in being slightly puzzled by this railtour. Pathfinder Tours are promoting this by saying the last Deltic working across the Pennines was on Sunday 27th December hauled by 55009. My records show that actually the last working was actually on December 30th with 55002. It left Liverpool on the 12:05 and failed on arrival at York and was withdrawn. I’ve got a photo of the train at Diggle and the date I recorded is confirmed by the Deltic Preservation societies journal Deltic Deadline. Am I missing something?

55002 did work on the 30th. My notes say 'Last run?'. Here's a not very good shot of it at Greenfield.

I don't think 55002 failed on arrival at York on 30th December. As I recall it came off its train and was driven round to the NRM for preservation as planned. True it was withdrawn from traffic on that date but not because it had failed.

I’m not sure that’s correct Peter as 55002 was booked to work part of the farewell rail tour on January 2nd but was not available. Deltic Deadline also records it as having failed. Perhaps the fault only impacted one engine so it could make its way to the NRM but wasn’t up to main line working?

I do seem to recall that the Museum were not expecting it when it showed up at the door, but having completed its booked working and made its own way to the Museum I doubt it had failed. It may well have developed a fault that was not worth rectifying in view of its pending withdrawal but I do not think that counts as a failure.

I’ve scanned the page from Deltic Deadline dated Feb 82 which records the last Deltic workings. Clearly records 55002 as having failed on arrival at York (it’s also referenced elsewhere in the magazine). Not sure what the definition of failure is but I’m guessing if they pulled it from the railtour then failed it probably was.

OK Sorry - looks like I'm wrong. It was an awful long time ago and it is only a Deltic after all (now where did I put the hard hat!).

In the final years they ran the Newcastle - Liverpool service on one engine regularly
